LT: Is it good or bad that, not only did I hear that sound all the way over here, despite the TV, the fan, and the AC being on, but that I was disturbed enough to go find out what caused it?

Sometimes, feeling helpless seems like the worst. Just know that, their knowing you're there for them is a comfort and that makes you helpful and caring, not helpless in the face of their tragedy.
