This is a thread in which we can appreciate the remarkable versatility and entertainment value of simple, small, people-powered watercraft. Weird hybrids like Adirondack Guide Boats are okay too, and if you insist on stuff like paddle boats--you know, the ones that tourists rent and peddle like bicycles--then fine. Post pics, stories, experiences, whatever.

I'll open the thread with a shot of Lady P and me in a tandem, paddling in the San Juan Islands a few years ago.

One of the things I love about small, shallow-draft boats is that you can get into places where cool critters hide. This is an alligator, seen over the bow of my canoe in the Peace River in Everglades territory.
reasons not to like canoes #1
*shudder*

The Spaniard had a loo with a view.

Actually, that's a requirement out on the river. The groover is always set up with a nice view.

Why on earth not? You're not exactly in a private stall, so you might as well have a view.

Boyfriend and I love to kayak! We go at least a few times a month. I will get pics next time to post.

I love kayaking around the coast and I've come across seals, dolphins, some weird birds and even a few basking sharks but I would never want to get that close to an alligator in my inflatable kayak.

Here's a kayak of my own design that I built about three years ago for duck hunting. It's a skin-on-frame kayak in the tradition of the Inuits.

I was actually taking pictures of the double rainbow, but the kayak was in the foreground.

Very cool!
