UPDATE:
Due to some additional interest, this thread is now open again to a small number, 3 to be exact, all applications can be freely posted here in the thread, but only three will be accepted.
I've been having quite the urge to play in a nice big epic campaign, slay some dragons and the like, and since the universe has yet to align and present me with an easy way to do so, I've taken matters in to my own hands.
This is a casting call to anyone who would like to take part in a thread using a loose version of pathfinder/DnD3.5 (some rolls can be skipped to keep things running smoothly) If there turns out to be some interest then I'll write up the background material and we can all start making characters.
I'm hoping for about 7-9 people tops, with an even split of men and women, but if there does turn out to be enough people wanting to play then things can be arranged.
The Story So Far:
For three generations the lands of Alora have been locked in the grips of war, a petty feud that escalated out of control and engulfed all the known lands, with even the other continents taking the opportunity to strike at the outlying kingdoms. But for the first time in almost 500 years, there is an emperor, and through blood and steel he has brought an uneasy peace to the land, many are unhappy about this, mostly warlords who had carved out their own empires that they now couldn’t control, but for the most part things were looking up.
This sudden peace had the problem of leaving many a professional soldier out of work, sure there was always call for such people, but in the wake of war there were simply too many people with far too few jobs. The emperor, in his infinite wisdom, solved this before his rise to power, using an invention that had come about during the war, a mighty airship, to send an expedition across the sea to find the lost lands of Rania.
Now that the war has been over for almost two years, the expedition has returned, with proof that Rania is more than just some fable in ancient scrolls. The trip had been measured in years for them, but thanks to improvements in the design of airships the journey there would take just over a month. So now every sellsword and glory hound with a few gold to buy the ticket it takes to board an airship is on his way to Rainia and their chance to become a legend and retire on a bed of gold.

Lore
History:
The calendar for the '3rd age' goes back a little over a thousand years.
No solid information exists for the '2nd age', it was a time of chaos and lawlessness where much of civilizations remains were destroyed, nobody truly know long long it went for, as no one from before it still lives.
The near mythical '1st age' predates the gods themselves, or at least the gods that still live, it was from writings of this time that the legend of Rania came to be, and its from relics that airships were derived.
Religion:
There are 2 sects of gods, there are the 'new gods', those who still influence the mortal coil, and the 'old gods', who predate the second age, and while there are those who worship the old gods, there is no proof of their existence as there is with the new gods.
Location: Rania:
There are so many legends about Rania that its impossible to say for certain which of them are true, or at least are based in fact, so characters could have heard any wild tale you could imagine.
Location: Hexith'taul:
The intercontinental port city.
Those who understand Dragonic would notice the name resembles the words 'Doomed City', and that the title after the kings name on the hospitality papers was also Dragonic, translating to 'lord of the sky.'
The architecture is predominately well worn stone, with a few patches of wood here and there. While there are a few garden strips, the ground so far has been well paved stone.
Hexith'taul apparently has an army, a very well funded army by the looks of the soldiers who had been working the cordon at the port.
The population appears to be very wide and varied, with far more even numbers of different races on the streets.
The maps sold are rather basic, showing a black outline of the city major districts and a few landmarks, the port district and the royal palace for example, as well as the immediate surroundings outside of the city. Studying it further or finding a higher quality example may reveal more.
The guidebook, which is rather small and designed to be as close to pocket size as they could make it, mainly details the laws of the city, which are all rather standard, though it does point out slavery is legal, not that it elaborates the degree of it. It does however elaborate on what the general said at the initial announcement, there is no central law enforcement, different areas are controlled by various enforcers, such as mercenary guilds, and all judgment and prosecution is done independently.
In the back it also lists a few tourist attractions, the coliseum (shown on map), the royal gardens (also on map) and the theater (not listed on map) are the only ones that sound like they aren’t pointless tourist traps though.
