The following quote comes to us from Rep. Mike Rogers of Michigan, regarding the cybersecurity bill that was passed in the House today.

"This is the last bastion of things we need to do to protect this country."

Mike is the Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.

Republican efficiency = Dumb and dumber, both delivered by the same person!

That sounds like something Joe Biden would say.

That's the way to go, box. Take something stupid said by one politician and try to imply it has something to do with a politician you don't like. Shit, I won't even say it sounds like something Ronald Reagan or Dubbya would have said.

Face it, Box, your man said it, and he is an idiot.

I am merely pointing out that many people fall prey to Spoonerisms.

By the way, I don't like ANY politicians.

last bastion?

bastion [ˈbæstɪən]
n
1. (Military / Fortifications) a projecting work in a fortification designed to permit fire to the flanks along the face of the wall

But "Last Bastion" is refers to the loss of the remaining bastions?

So, we lost the war(s) and are depending on Congress. Strange thing to say.

But Pol's will say the damnedest things, better to ignore them and vote new blood to spread the wealth a little. :D

OK, but at least let them be hung for what they did say, not what you think the'd likely say.

And...

Spoonerism? Do you mean Malapropism?

Good idea...maybe we should expect the same of them that Mayan kings had to offer...

their own blood, drawn by piercing the penis with a sting ray barb, as a sacrifice to ensure the well-being of the city.

That'll keep 'em honest!

You're right. It is Malapropism.

Actually, the misuse is not as glaring as some seem to believe. If he had said: "This is the last bastion we need to overcome to protect this country" that would have been correct. Not true, but correct usage.

But if we consider it a Malapropism, it's "bastion" we need to replace.

You know, like the poor unwed girl who finds herself six months poignant, or the government dysentery who visited your home town.

A bastion is either part of a fortress or a fortress. As the latter, it is usually used in a positive term, such as "A bastion of freedom" but it could also be used in a negative way, such as "A bastion of fascism."
