Atheist soldiers in the military face discrimination and prejudice and suffer punishment.
Slurs against atheists are allowed. Abuse of atheists is allowed. Discrimination against atheists is allowed.
Women once faced the glass ceiling of discrimination. Gay men and gay women once faced the glass ceiling of discrimination.
Those glass ceilings were broken enough to make allowance for them in the military. By law!
It's time to break the stained glass ceiling. The conservative evangelical clergy should not be allowed punish anyone for not conforming.
What caused a crack in the stained glass ceiling? An event called Rock Beyond Belief. The keynote speaker was the British biologist
and famous atheist author Richard Dawkins.

3000 chaplains- Ninety percent are Christian, even though only about 7 out of 10 soldiers claim to be Christian. There are also a handful of Muslim,
Jewish, and Hindu chaplains. Jason Torpy, an Iraq veteran, wants to know why the much larger group of atheists or humanists, estimated to be
about 40,000 soldiers, don’t have their own chaplain. What is preventing an atheist soldier from having an atheist chaplain?
“Anyone wanting to become a chaplain must have an endorsement from a qualified religious organization."
Who has control of who can qualify as a religious organization?
The only help offered to an atheist soldier is a suicide hotline.
Is it fair to tell an atheists soldier they are suicidal because they are not religious?
Is it fair for the army to deem an atheist soldier as an spiritually unfit soldier?
"I take this test again and again and again, because every three months since I failed a section, the spiritual portion,
that means I’m red (failing the test) and I have to take it again in three months."
"It’s offensive in the highest. It’s illegal. it’s unconstitutional, it’s a waste of money, and it’s another tool to keep us down,
to tell us atheists that we’re freaks or somehow unfit."
- SERGEANT JUSTIN GRIFFITH
Atheists face discrimination and disadvantages for not conforming-
Going to a psychiatrist, for whatever reason, is often interpreted as a negative on a soldier’s record.
Chaplains have unfettered access to troops and they have clergy confidentiality. If you go to a psychologist or a
psychiatrist within the military it goes on your official record, which can jeopardize your job.
