where did they go?

The authors pull them for various reasons--often because they are publishing them to the marketplace.

Sometimes (but less often) because they are fed up with troll-bombings and snarky comments.

I think estragon is correct...

I have requested ALL of my stories be pulled because I'm fed up with all the anonymous jackass'.

To pull stories you have to submit a "remove" request just like submitting a story. Lourel said it would take 5 to 7 days, so if you have any thoughts about reading any of mine, I'd suggest doing so now.

Laurel informed me several authors have removed their stories for the same reasons as myself. It's too bad because I consider this the best free story site on the net, bar none. But I guess being the largest and the best, you also draw more idiots.

But... if you don't want anonymous comments, you can disable or disallow them. You'll find them at any site, I'm sure. I don't see how removing your stories helps anything.

Pennlady, it's not the comments...

I take the anonymous comments with a grain of salt. They are not the problem. It's the voting. Yes, I know you can turn it off as well but it is the only way by which you can see if people enjoy your stories or not. To submit a story and not allow voting is like masturbation. You get the job done but you're left with a lonely feeling.

Laurel felt I was placing too much emphasis on the voting. Maybe I do, but for me, it is the best barometer.

I'm not sure how it is done, but evidently it is possible for a few people to vote stories almost down to nothing. As I stated on another thread, one of my last entries did extremely well hitting a score of 4.93 after 117 votes. Then I received an email from an "anonymous," person who told me my stories were nothing but crap and he was going to make it his personal vendetta to vote all my stories into "oblivion," (his word) with one bombs.

Sure enough, everyone of my stories started going down. Not just by a little but a lot. The story that was at 4.93 just a little while ago is now at 4.59 just 15 votes later and still falling. Before I received his email I had 7 stories with red H's, now I have 2 and with in a couple more votes, will have none.

For me, it just takes all the fun out of it.

I agree with nakdsub. I had eleven red Hs (all my stories) now I have six. After the contest sweeps that went back up to nine. The next day I was one bombed, and I get eleven one bombs every day now. I'm ignoring it at the moment, hoping they will get bored, and a sweep will fix it.

The funny thing is, I didn't have any issues with dropping scores until I pissed a few people off on the forums.

====================================
It sure has taken the fun out of it for me. I am not so thin-skinned that I can't accept constructive advice. However, the manner in which many people have expressed their disapproval is unfortunate for the Lit community as a whole. I might not like a story but then the next reader might feel the opposite so who has the right to be negative and judgmental in a rude and distructive way? The thing is, writing erotic literature is almost like living it (and sometimes it was lived) making the effort both worthwhile and exciting.

QUOTE NaughtyGirl2012 I haven't been on here in quite awhile.. some of my favorite stories are gone!

Yes dear lady some of the best stories have gone! BUT…

Oh look, the biggest one-bomber on the site has made his fucking self promoting appearance!

Fucking dyslexic convenience store clerk...

It has been said here often that the voting system permits, even encourages and enables, troll-bombing. The reader owes the author nothing, not even the obligation to act in good faith. The reader need have no qualifications, not even marginal literacy. No reader need sign in, even with a handle, much less with his/her own name, in order to vote or comment.

And we agree that Lit is the premier erotic story site.

Is it any wonder that the trolls come here? Again I cite Matthew 24:28: "Where the flesh is, there will the vultures gather."

I know it won't happen, but...

Maybe if more writes took down their stories Lit would, at least, make voters sign in. That probably wouldn't help much but it might discourage a few.

Over the last two weeks every one of my stories have been one bombed day after day. I submitted for the removal of all my stories several days ago. I'm hoping tonight will be the night.

Not a chance in hell, I'm afraid. First, readers just don't have the mentality that they owe the author either a vote or a comment and nothing in the website's setup presses them to do so. And there has been no indication that I've seen in years that the website is going to do anything about this either. They certainly aren't going to do it because you post it to the forum. They say they don't have time to read the forum (that's stated in the forum rules) and there's little indication that they do read the forums--or do much of anything about anything brought up in the forums. There are more than 50,000 authors on this site. If you think that herding cats is difficult . . .

Oh I know...

I PM'd Laurel with my reasons for removing all my stories. She seemed very disinterested and, like you say, there are too many authors here to worry about a few.

If others get around the system like the jackass trolling me, good luck with anyone's scores though. It appears that one person who took offense at something I said in this forum has something called tentacles that allows him to just keep voting over and over again for the same stories. I thought once you voted for a story that was it, but evidently there are ways of getting around that and voting as many times as you want.

Two weeks ago I got an email from him telling me he was going to vote all my stories into oblivion and he has done it. I don't know if he has accomplices or he does it single handed but ever single story of mine has dropped significantly since getting his email.

When I mentioned this to Laurel she did not comment.

So... I just don't think it's fair that one person has that much power after working so hard to present a well written story.

I agree with you on the problem--and I'll bet you are faring a lot better in the trolls and voting than I am--but I'm not going to waste time and effort spitting in the wind, nor in giving my trolls the giggles when they come here to see how much I'm "enjoying" the fun they're having.

Hmmm. I see the problem, but I honestly don't see how removing your stories is going to solve anything. You can go to other sites, of course, but likely they all have their own trolls.

Sometimes I think I'm a bit of an anomaly -- I of course like positive ratings and feedback, but honestly, I can't tell you the last time I checked my ratings and I never check the top lists. This is such a big site, with such a large and random pool of readers, that I don't think it pays to get upset at a troll. It's the internet after all -- there are trolls all over and have been since it was all dial-up BBSs.

Anyway, I'm sorry you're taking down your stories.

Thank you, Pennlady...

It wasn't an easy discision to make but I just got tired of the BS.

Has anyone given any thought to not allowing anonymous comments? Most members don't use real names and if someone has a comment I think its reasonable that those they comment on have an opportunity to respond.

That's been mentioned ad nauseum over the years, yes. Forum users don't have a vote in any of this. The site owners, Laurel and Manu, decide it all. They don't usually read the forum and they don't answer e-mails. Suggestions can go to one or the other via PM (private message--upper right on this page), if you wish to give it it's millionth go.
