...if women dropped the pretense and stopped wearing any make up at all?

A 28 year-old woman I've worked with for the past five years shows up at the office today not wearing a drop of make up. Seems she's developed some type of skin allergy and her doctor recommended she discontinue wearing any make up for the time being.

Hopefully I hid the horror that washed over me when I saw her for the first time without her mask.

Prior to today I rated her about a "7" on my personal beauty meter. But after seeing her without any make up she dropped down to about a "1". I could not help but think of my Uncle Stan when I looked at her face.

Any comments about the topic?

So what are you advocating?

A-plus for being a vapid asswipe. Congrats!

You previously rated her a 7 - and had no chance.
Now you rate her a 1 - and you still have no chance.
Sucks to be you.

I can't speak for everyone, but I actually prefer a woman with no makeup or added fragrance. I want to see and smell HER. But then, I married a tomboy who is a knockout in old jeans a tee shirt with her hair either pulled back or flying hell-west-and-crooked. It isn't that "made up" women aren't sexy, just like it better when they have that "this is really me" look.

I like make-up, but not in that, "I'm wearing make-up to look like I'm not wearing make-up" way. I don't like natural looking people. I like folk who have eccentric eye-liner, dark lip tones- really, it's the eyes. I like folk who look at their face like a blank canvas and make-up as the paint. It's a socially acceptable way to literally paint yourself up. It's an art form.

I really dislike people- mostly women who do this (sexist generalization) who wear make-up on the pretext of making people think that that's just how they look. For some reason that I can't pinpoint, I find it both creepy and dull. If you're wearing make-up to look like you're not wearing make-up, then don't wear make-up. That's a waste of money that you could be spending on weed... which would put circles under your eyes and force you to wear more make-up.

I'm sleepy. I forgot what my point was. Carry on.

There's no practical reason to wear make-up.
There's also no practical reason to comb your hair.

Yet only one is seen as either vanity or conformism.

The lack of usefulness elevates make-up and hair styling to ART!

I've never met a woman I've found sexier with makeup on than without it.

But then, I'd say the same about clothes.

The issue is that there are a lot of men who really should be wearing makeup. Might pull them up a level or two.

here here!

Suddenly I wanna burst into "La Vie Bohem"

To handcrafted beers,
Made in local breweries
To yogurt
To yoga
To rice and beans and cheese!

:D
Although I must confess that it's hardly ever the way a guy looks that turns me into a menacing stalker... I mean love-struck fool. It's all about confidence, attitude and a sense of humour. A smokin' bod comes way down the list (if I order it alphabetically).

I haven't done make up in almost 30 years. At this point if I put any on, it would be horrid. Especially at work, where hardly anyone wears it at all.

And it's ridiculously expensive...

Funny how women slather on makeup, dye their hair, curl or uncurl it, don fake eyelashes, buy fake boobs, and then bitch that they can't find a "real man." :D

Make-up is great. The point of a made-up face is to see it become a swirly mess of tears on ink.

I think first and foremost, it's really sad that she developed an allergy.

l will never understand this "rating system". If more people just went on what a person is like and how they make them feel inside, there would probably be less people bitching about how alone they are.
