Lady P's not-blood-relation "uncle" (her dad's oldest and closest friend; she called him "Uncle" and he had no family of his own) died last September and left half his stuff to her. She just gave me this watch. Who's got old stuff formerly belonging to an ancestor or whatever? Anything cool? Post descriptions/pictures in here.

Uncle's Mother's initials "to" Uncle's father's initials. The "M" is for "Middleton," as seen below:

I have a Civil War-era gold watch passed down from my great-grandfather.
As a side note, I occasionally read of people who are 60 and have great-grandchildren. My great-grandfather lived to almost 102 and still died 12 years before I was born.
His loins were active late in life.

How very, very cool. There's not much of that sort of history in my family; all my grands or great-grands were penniless immigrants, and there's far too many descendants. I'd like to see your watch, though, if you ever have a picture handy.

Somewhere I have a ring that was my grandfather's, a gold one with a nice red garnate set in it. My mom just gave me the matching one for Lady P, but we need to find a similar stone for hers, as I guess the stone went missing a long time ago. They're cool rings, but my grandfather must have had HUGE fingers. The thing rattles on my thumb. I could probably wear it around my big toe.

No gold watches, but I do have my great-grandfather's mustache cup, his meerschaum pipe, my great-grandmother's bread bowls and the knife my great-grandfather made for her from a saw blade. The mustache cup and the pipe are on display, but I still use the bowls quite often. That knife is scary as hell.

I don't even know what a mustache cup is. Like a cup with a shield so you don't get whiskey in your facial hair? Still, that's neat. I wanna see them, especially the scary knife!

Wow...a Vacheron & Constantin pocket watch....keep it well, it's a collectors item and worth a good sum.

Yes, exactly. Here's an example I gleeped from Google. His was nowhere near this fancy. I'll try to post a couple of pictures of my family "heirlooms" tomorrow.

That's more or less what I pictured. I'm psyched to see your stuff!

It's a nice thing, and yeah, appraised at a decent sum. I probably won't do much more than take it out and look at it from time to time. It's hard to imagine wearing it or anything. Do you know anything about them?

It's a rather beat up collection. They, along with their six little girls, lived in a large tent down by the river where he trapped rats for a living. Not exactly the "heirloom" types.

if was not for cell phones I would carry one... it is kinda like using a straight razor...just cool to do.

I don't know anything specific about their pocket watches, but Vacheron is a highly respected watch manufacturer with a long lineage. You might be able to garner some more info at one of these forums:

Holy crap, what a cool family history! That's just pure Dickens!

Lol...we have a lot in common, though I still wear a wristwatch that I love very much. Lookee here: http://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?t=650901&highlight=straight+razor

I checked out the wiki. Cool history there; I had no idea. This made me smile:

Previous Vacheron Constantin owners include Napoleon Bonaparte, Pope Pius XI, the Duke of Windsor and Harry Truman.

Thanks for the links.

Anytime....you've got a real gem there with a lot of history behind it. Enjoy!

I'm now considering crafting some sort of box in which to display it. It would be a nice desk ornament and a good way to remember the uncle dude.

Smoking a pipe would be cool too..i love the smell but just not into a tobacco habit anymore.

I smoked one for a few months once, in college. I was trying to quit cigarettes. It worked pretty well. I didn't inhale pipe smoke, and it was such a pain in the ass that I didn't smoke it very often at all. They do smell really good. The FIL smokes one once in a while still.

You were trying to quit cigarettes by smoking a pipe? Who told you that was a good way to go?

The pipe is much a more powerful nicotine delivery system than cigarettes.

I said I was trying to quit smoking cigarettes, not necessarily quit using nicotine. No one told me, but it worked rather well, since, as I pointed out, smoking a pipe is such a pain in the ass that I just went without pretty often, rather than bother with the ritual.

Nice. Now I need a three piece suit.

I have a silk shawl about 6' square. Its a tourquise colour with kinda black lacey pattern on it.
It was stolen from some rich cat during the French revolution and passed down through the family.

Actually, my dad gave it to my son just before he passed 2 years ago
