There are 468 legislators up for re-election this year. If there was a way that the government can lower fuel costs, they would find it and implement it, regardless of Obama. Michele Bachmann is sitting on a plan for $2 gas. Why hasn't it hatched?

I think since the nation watched for 90 days while oil spilled into the Gulf, a more careful approach to drilling in the Gulf was and continues to be a necessary and prudent thing to do. Not letting Halliburton use substandard concrete, letting engineers that are not in the employ of BP or Exxon/Mobil do the inspections, etc. That is why we have a government.
