Obviously, the point is what sort of a kid Trayvon was. Media outlets initially portrayed him as an innocent lamb, running a photo taken 5 years ago as if it were a current photo.

Inasmuch as the case is being adjudicated in the mass media, it becomes legitimate to inquire into Zimmerman's background, which isn't spotless either.

But nobody forced Trayvon to twitter under the name "NO-LIMIT-NIGGA." Nobody forced him to have a burglary tool and items of women's jewelry in his backpack.

Although Zimmerman clearly exceeded his Neighborhood Watch mandate, it begins to look like Trayvon was precisely the sort of burglar which a Neighborhood Watch volunteer should be alert for.

Sadly, in the instant case, the outcome was tragic.

None of this matters as evidence in this situation. The only thing that matters is what caused the situation to escalate beyond a question and answer situation, and then who used unnecessary force. It could very well be that Zimmerman pushed Trayvon first and then Trayvon hit him which would be fine. I think the problem is that Trayvon then got on top of Zimmerman and continued to beat him. IF what I just said happened, then there are no charges to be filed. Trayvon was within his rights for the initial punch, but he exceeded those rights by continuing the attack when Zimmerman was no longer a threat, and this gave Zimmerman the right to use deadly force if he was in fear for his life. This is a sad situation and it will never be corrected because it is no longer a legal case but a political case.

Not too many men on this planet can suffer a broken nose, bleeding neck and possible concussion to the head from repeated skull blows against a concrete sidewalk from a person significantly lighter in weight and just walk it off without going to the hospital. It is not unusual in a situation such as this for the person injured not to realize it immediately because of all the adrenaline.

Part of what you say is the truth. The police should have taken the photos. I do not know if they did or did not as they have released no statement confirming or denying. As for taking him to the hospital you can not legally compel someone to seek medical care against their will. If they are in custody you can and would take them to the hospital but they can refuse medical care.

What is all this talk about a "burglary tool?" Is that like "assault rifle," a term applied to an otherwise innocuous tool for inflammatory rhetorical purposes? Are there tools designed specifically for burglary? Sometimes I carry a Swiss Army knife in my pocket. It has a couple screwdrivers on it. Does that mean I can be shot by my local neighborhood watch?
