The effect of this is clearly seen in a Republican base scrambling to find an identity. The contentious fight for the presidential nomination in the Republican party is a clear indicator.

So, who will replace them? The Tea Party? Libertarians? Same animals as the dying breed, and neither will gain any real power.

I vote Liberal, and even I don't like the idea of the Dems not being kept in check on their bullshit. The simpletons like the ones in this forum are no challenge, so who will step up at a national level?

I agree...modern conservatism is dying but I also think modern liberalism is as well. I think very few of the up and coming generation enjoys the conservatives urge to micromanage your body and legislate morality. I also think most people get pissed off at the liberals for thinking they know how to better run their business and manage their bank account than they do. I think people are tired of going to jail because a politician felt he just HAD to do something so he wrote some absurd law that he had no business writing in the first place.

But most of all I think the majority is tired of the pointless 3rd grader "Nu uhhh, NU HUUUU!!!" entirely unproductive partisanship seen in our government.

Call them independent's, 3rd party or whatever but I think an entirely new philosophy and way of doing things will be born out of necessity once our antiquated system finally shit's the bed under the weight of it's own greed and corruption.

I just hope they take the best aspects from various current political philosophies, learn from our history and work together like civilized human beings in order re invent a newer better wheel.

You sound civil and sincere exressing your historical ignorance of political movements over time. Those identifying themselves as Conservative make up forty percent of the voting public, Liberals make up twenty percent. The nation is and always has been a majority of center right citizens.

There has been no 'new' philosophy since the extremes were set between Aristotle and Socrates, with a little theology to spice the mixture, it is, always has been and always will be, a battle between right and wrong, good and evil; those who cherish individual freedom and those who want a nipple to suck.

The entertainment industry has so much power, its like a monopoly. Everything it puts out is intentionally designed to promote immorality on sexual and family values issues. The playing field is not equal between pro and anti-values forces because of that. So, the government could promote positive pro-values messages WITHOUT COERCION. Carrot, not stick. By definition, America is center. I think you're really discussing whether the center has moved comparatively rightward over the years, and there is evidence that it has. The left moved hard left and stayed there four decades or so ago. The right has been drifting gradually farther to the right in the intervening years, pulling the center comparatively rightward along with it.
