The headline is from Yahoo. The facts are this. A child of 10 is still growing and at a rapid rate. Her bones are still forming. Severe damage can be expected from her squating 297 pounds. She could not have done the feat without adult coaching. Her coach(es) should be jailed for felony child abuse. I would have commented in Yahoo, but I don't have a Facebook or Twitter account. (Actually, I don't believe that her coach(es) should be jailed for felony child abuse. However, summary execution is illegal, for whatever reason.) Comment?

10-year-old Naomi Kutin sets women’s world lifting record for all age groups.

get yourself a twitter account, RR :)

I already get maybe 50 spam e-mails a day and that's without visiting girlie web sites. If I find myself even considering getting a Twitter acount, I'll just schedule another dentist visit instead.

Your spam settings could be tweaked.

and Twitter has nothing to do with spam-- in fact, the thing is, you don't have to give your email account at all, just your twitter name.

Noticed it was 197 lbs, not 297 lbs. No further comment. :cathappy:

Actually, both numbers are wrong:
"young Naomi Kutin set a world record for the 97-pound division in the raw squat event by lifting an astounding 215 pounds at the RAW Unity weightlifting championships in Texas."

Or a yahoo account. This was my reaction entirely. Why does the AH have to be people's garbage pail because they can post irrelevant stuff elsewhere for some reason or the other? At least put it on the GB instead.

Probably because posting in the GB would have led to a bunch of people asking how mush he and his boyfriend squat, or what his mother squats or just who the hell cares go back to the AH you queer.

That would be the most likely reason not to post there.

As to the topic at hand this is no worse than the parents of the young girls in gymnastics over here in the states or the psychotic sports dad's who push their kids relentlessly.

And this is nowhere near as bad as a bunch of coaches and administrators ignoring young boys being raped in the shower so they can win some football games.

So get off your horse RR there's much worse on your own doorstep.

How much I lift or squat is noboidy's business. I do sometimes work out with a group and, if one guy lifts a bit more than the rest, it's irrelevant, as long as I'm the guy lifting a little more.

What I had hoped to do is to alert parents on the AH board to the dangers of pushing young children to do physical exercise at levels that might well injure the child, maybe for the rest of the child's life. The girls's gymnastics and very young boy's football are classic examples.

Adults raping young children is a concern of mine, but that's so overt that even parents won't stand for that sort of thing.

As to my doorstep; where I spent my younger years punks tried to beat me up, rape me, even kill me. I seflf defense, I developed a solution to the problem. My solution had a 100% success rate and cut down on the number of punks in the area trying to hurt others. Alas, the scumbags totaly rejected a proven solution.

Oh, parents won't stand for the raping of young boys? You don't remember the tear filled faces that showed up at Paterno's funeral, all the people down there defending him?

If it were their kid it might have been different, but when ever its someone else's it can still be okay especially if there's a bowl game involved.

And what was your solution? Care to share or is it like the top secret one you were going to provide Mark Coker to beat paypal?

Because there is nothing to stop them-- Least of all their own sense of propriety.

No one here can throw stones on this. Everyone here at one time or another has either started or responded to these threads that have nothing to do with writing and everything to do with bitch sessions or personal platforms

That is human nature therefore the nature of chat rooms. The only thing I ever have against RR's threads is he always seems late to the dance.

Parents abuse their kids in the name of sports? NO shit.

And forget sports look at the beauty pageants for the little girls.

What was his other most recent revelation? Oh, yeah women buy more erotic e-books than men.

Day late and a dollar short all around. But he has the right to be and we all do the same thing

You mean non-writerly threads like these???

BTW, you and SR should get a new light for the top of your Forum Neighborhood Watch van to go with the new, nifty brown shirted uniforms you guys got.

P.S. RR just be glad those two didn't catch you in a hoodie armed with a bag of Skittles.

If I understand the main thrust of your entry (kids this young should not do things like this), it might be worth pointing out that the regulations for such sports are very tight.
I was looking at an interview with Nadia Komanec, the former Olympic gymnast a while ago. She has real joint problems and pain and at the time of the interview was only 24. There should be a better minimum age for high-level sports, IMO.

You're right. Problem is that in order to excel one has to start young. That is when the kids who show promise end up with the obsessed coach who goes to the sell out parents and tells them he will make their baby a star but they have to sacrifice.

There was a kid I took karate with for years. We both started at twelve and were still training together in our early twenties. The kid was excellent damn near a prodigy, but his father kept pushing him to be better.
'
He finished second in a big competition, and his father yelled and screamed at him in front of dozens of people and told him what a disgrace he was. The kid ended up having a nervous breakdown and was never really the same since.

You read about these sports dads all the time and the parents are supposed to be looking out for the kids so what are you going to do?

Nadia Comaneci was 14 years old when she first won gold medals in the Olympics. She was a child in Romania, which was a Communist dictatorship at the time. As such, the government would have used her and abused her and discarded her, as they saw fit.

Oh, come on. Joe Paterno never raped anybody,. The worst thing you can say about him is that he reported the allegations he had heard to the campus police instead of the city cops or county sheriff's department or some other public organization.

For years he watched this and he knew damn well the campus police would go nowhere with this.

Everything happens for a reason and what comes around goes around. I truly believe that scandal broke when it did, so that the story about what this monster turned his back to got out there before he died and was canonized for being a damn saint in the churches of PA.

Ask the parents of all the boys who were hurt if they think Joe was a saint or a sinner.

If you watch a woman or child raped, if you know it happens and you walk away you are just as guilty. It's a question of whether you get yours in the here and now or spend the after life with a red hot poker shoved up your ass.

Getting soft in your old age there Box?

I don't defend the abuses that take place in college sports. I also don't defend the phony, tearful defenses, "I didn't know that it was happening!" or "I just didn't realize that it was that bad!"

The problems that I had when I was younger were mainly due to living in a gang controlled environment. The scumbags were too busy pimping for they mama to control the semi-military gangs. My obvious solution, which was scorned at the time, was to use military action against the gangs. The scumbags and the politicians swore that they would never use military action. Then came the SWAT teams. The SWAT teams use military weapons, tactics and action. Meanwhile, the scumbags and the politicians fight over who gonna get the best corner to pimp they mama.
(By the way, I don't like scumbags and I don't like politicians.)

Would you have had Paterno lead a lynch mob and hang Sandusky from a tree on the PSU campus? Or would you rather he reported the allegations to the proper authorities so they could take action?

If I had been Paterno, I would have done as he did, report the allegations to the proper authorities. If I saw no action taking place, I probably would have followed up on it, and maybe he did. We've never really heard his side of the story, you know.

Box, please, don't start this all over again. We have already gone over the available facts in this matter. Click Unless you are showing signs of dementia, you have to remember. As you will recall, there were references in that thread to Paterno's last interview, where he told his side of the story. Here it is, if you are interested. Click In that interview he specifically states that after making his initial report, he did nothing. That statement was consistent with his grand jury testimony, which was also provided in that previous thread. You might not know what he did, but anyone who was paying attention does.
