Way back when, back when I was semi-young, I took my son on a ride up to the Northern reaches of the St. Johns river. It was Thanksgiving eve and we were riding in my '63 Avanti. I took the back roads to I could let that engine roar and feel the glue on the tires that that particular car had.

Being an old car it was cursed with an AM radio, great reception, bad selections in a FM world.

Anyway, it was Thanksgiving eve and one of the local stations was playing this.

"Alice's Restaurant."

So I asked, "You ever heard 'talking blues"?

He said, "No."

So I slowed down for a while. Didn't have to, just knew how long this ditty went. We were taking the back roads, no scales and no cops that could catch that car.

Great trip. Remember that one?

That must have been around the time of Consolidation up here in the northern reaches of the St. John's. When they flushed their toilets right into the river, and paper mills stank up the air. And not long after they filmed Cool Hand Luke in the outskirts.

I try to get my daughter to listen to classic music. Sometimes she patiently listens and occasionally likes it, sometimes she rolls her eyes.

Sure do. I also remember that 289 turbo with glasspacks was so fucking loud, when sneaking it out at night I would have to push it two fucking blocks as not to wake anyone up....

This thread has the makings of a homoerotic father and son epic biography.

Leave it to Ish to have owned a car of which only 3,800 were made, and with production ceasing in December '63, its all-fiberglass body would have been relegated to a scrap heap within 10 years.
