In the name of "Fairness at any cost," Obama tried to force every public swimming pool in America to install two handicapped accessible entrances - wheelchair lifts or ramps, and the deadline was yesterday.

Fortunately the DOJ had the good sense to tell hundreds of thousands of pool owners, don't worry about the deadline.

And of course, the LibLoonz will chant to those of us who applaud the DOJ, "why do you hate cripples?"

Another bone thrown to the Trial Lawyers Association.

"Public" facilities have been required to be accessible since 1992. In 2009 and 2010 the Paralyzed Veterans of America petitioned the Obama administration to force owners of public pools to make them comply with the ADA.

Funny issue, but I guess I think our paralyzed vets deserve to swim in public pools.

I wonder if the law will apply just as soon as the weather warms, the pool opens and a crippled black Flucke decides to visit the public pool in a "white" sector of town...

???

Rory? Your best guess?

There is a 60-day stay ... so that means May. A bit early I suspect.

In general, I find the cripples possessing of enough arm strength to get themselves in and out of the pool the same way we did as kids; on the sides...

;) ;)

... it's all that wheeling, you see...

If they lack that, one has to wonder what the purpose of swimming sans therapist or family member would be other than, perhaps, a quick way to end it all...

Of course, requiring public pools to be accessible to handicapped persons is a "Bad Thing™".

Nobody has to demonize you idiots, you wear your ignorance with pride.

It's just Obama pandering to all those Socialist veterans again.

One can only hope that sanity will prevail eventually. All I see is thousands of swimming pools being closed as a result of this idiocy.

If you google 'Pool lifts' there are 100s of merchant's selling the compliant lifts for about $300. If I went to a public pool, and that pool couldn't come up with $300, I'd probably donate it. But that's how I roll.

Threads like this are why I find lit so much fun. I don't run into wackadoodles like these guys in real life.

The Obama administration (From the Washington Times article) granted a 60 day extention and may extend that for up to 6 months.

Not to mention of course, that facilities have known about this requirement since 2010, nearly two years but suddenly it needs to be repealed because it's an undue burden to require pools to comply.

Exactly.

Johnny boy thinks there's an endless pool of money (pun intended) for owners to just go to Amazon.com and order up a lift.

The article says there aren't enough lifts to fill demand, if it came to that.

And between businesses with pools (hotels, mostly) and municipalities, they simply don't have the money. Swimming pools are amenities, not revenue generators.

The only people this will benefit are dirt hauling companies who will be called to come fill in the pools.

Seems like it would be more expensive to fill in the pool...

Oh snap!
