@ $9.50 / 1000 hours of light the $0.75 60 watt incandescent light costs $285 to operate over the same span where the $50 bulb costs around another $50.

I stocked up on incandescent bulbs before the ban. Got plenty. And no, I won't sell them to liberals.
Liberals seem obsessed with having government tell people they have to have Chinese-made light bulbs that are expensive, emit a harsh ugly light, take too long to reach full brightness, contain toxic chemicals, and can't be legally disposed of without following government-regulated procedures. These bulbs probably require more energy and resources to produce than they save, too.
So us wingnuts who planned ahead will be the ones saving your planet for you. Thank us later.![]()

LOL!!!!! Are you stocked up on A-track tapes and astronaut ice-cream too?
WTF is an "A track tape"???
"A" sounds like "8, or something.
A classic post by Garbage Canette.
What the hell are these old-white-dudes bitching about? The bulbs are going to outlast them?
Miles apparently thinks that buying 100 bulbs for a dollar each instead of one $50 bulb makes sense. I'm not sure why and honestly, I don't care. He's miles and he makes me laugh.
Someone needs to start a thread with her musings. Comedy gold.

Actually, I think miles is pissed he has to buy bulbs which he is mandated to buy by the government - also funny.
Light bulbs are a big issue for some of the wingnuts. The Powers That Be totaled up the poison released when standard light bulbs were thrown away and determined that a new design would use less energy, last longer, and ultimately poison the Earth less because of all of these factors. And it cost more.
I change my light bulbs less. I use less power. What is not to love? If the DOE can spend some cash to jump start the next technological leap, what is not to love in that?
Source?they were losing money on regular bulbs and could make new ones and make some profit.
Heat lamps are exempt from the energy regulations.Source?
People who live in cold climates appreciate incandescent bulbs. They save on heating bills.

LED's do not contain mercury.Only a tin-knocker would say new mercury filled bulbs are not toxic.
Your soldering gun?You can take my poisonous energy consuming power wasting excess heat producing 19th century technology when you twist it from my cold dead socket.
LED's do not contain mercury.
Please learn something about a topic before you spout off again.
Your neck is still yellow. and you are still stupid. Like the Volt, no one will buy LED's, they will buy the CFL's because they are cheaper. CFL bulbs are not as green as many people believe. First of all they are more complicated than incandescent bulbs requiring more materials, more processing, and therefore more energy during manufacture.
Secondly, they contain electronic components - the manufacture of which requires a range of nasty chemicals, and the release into the atmosphere of dangerous heavy metals and other polution. Last and by no means least, every CFL bulb manufactured today contains not insignificant amounts of the toxic metal mercury.
They bold type also applies to LED's.
Long-lasting - LED bulbs last up to 10 times as long as compact fluorescents, and far longer than typical incandescents.
Durable - since LEDs do not have a filament, they are not damaged under circumstances when a regular incandescent bulb would be broken. Because they are solid, LED bulbs hold up well to jarring and bumping.
Cool - these bulbs do not cause heat build-up; LEDs produce 3.4 btu's/hour, compared to 85 for incandescent bulbs. Common incandescent bulbs get hot and contribute to heat build-up in a room. LEDs prevent this heat build-up, thereby helping to reduce air conditioning costs in the home.
Mercury-free - no mercury is used in the manufacturing of LEDs.
More efficient - LED light bulbs use only 2-17 watts of electricity (1/3rd to 1/30th of Incandescent or CFL). LED bulbs used in fixtures inside the home save electricity, remain cool and save money on replacement costs since LED bulbs last so long. Small LED flashlight bulbs will extend battery life 10 to 15 times longer than with incandescent bulbs.
Cost-effective - although LEDs are initially expensive, the cost is recouped over time and in battery savings. LED bulb use was first adopted commercially, where maintenance and replacement costs are expensive. But the cost of new LED bulbs has gone down considerably in the last few years. and are continuing to go down. Today, there are many new LED light bulbs for use in the home, and the cost is becoming less of an issue. To see a cost comparison between the different types of energy-saving light
