I'm not one of those parents that likes to brag. My kid is 6 and is usually a disturbance in his class with talking and fidgeting, like most 6 year old boys are.

I had had enough of the school complaining about it so I booked an evaluation with a psychologist thinking he had some learning disability or something. It took 8 months to get in the door, weekly visits for the evaluation, not to mention the $$ it cost, and it all came down to today when I got his results.

As it turns out he does not have a learning disability, it is the opposite. He ranked in the 99th percentile on one of his tests. 96th percentile on another, and 74th percentile. There are 1 - 3% of the population that are in this category at the age of six. I can't wait to sit down with his teacher and principal again.

You fuckers better watch out too, he's destined to rule the world!

:D

Being able to sit still and pay attention is a valuable skill for a world ruler to have.

My guess would be that your Son does not suffer from the mental disorder that most progressive liberals suffer from.

Thats cuz they have little contact with really disturbed kids. If a kid isnt in a coma or a kiss-ass the school shits and whistles. Boys fidget and cut-up. Thats what they do.

The sick fuckers climb out bus windows and get on the roof of the school.

My kid was there too. He went into the gifted program and they found enough to challenge him so he wasn't bored.

smart kids get bored by easy, tedious, dumbed down shit being taught at a snail's pace. with the primary school i was incredibly lucky to have had teachers who went out of their way to find him more challenging materials... pilfering work sheets from the middle school to give to him.

it gets better once they're older and the classes are streamed by ability. they can work at a faster pace and compete with other gifted kids.

make those teachers feel shitty! they should be able to spot a gifted-but-bored child. it's part of their job.

Hah! I had a similar situation with my (then) 14 yr old.
This is an actual phone call I got from his science teacher...

"Hello, this is *****"

"Hi, this is Mrs **** from ****** High School. I'm calling about your son"

"Oh, hi there. What's up?"

"Well, I'm afraid your son is being disruptive in my science class. He sighs."

"Excuse me?"

"He sighs, loudly, in my class and it's disruptive for my other students."

"He sighs?"

"Yes."

"Uuuummmm... Could you be a little more specific? Why does he sigh."

"He finishes all his work very quickly, and then sits there sighing loudly. As I said, it's disruptive."

"I'm not really sure why you rang me about this."

"As I said, his behaviour is dirupting my other students, and despite me asking him to stop, the behaviour has continued."

" I see. And you've been a teacher for how long?"

"I 've been teaching for many years. But I'm calling to ask you to speak to your son and impress upon him the need to allow other students quiet time to finish their work without interuptions."

"So, to recap, my son does all his work. He finishes before anyone else in the class, and then he sighs. Have I got that?"

"Correct."

"What the hell is wrong with you? You're a teacher! Give the kid extra work if he's getting bored in your class!"

"Uummm, well...."

"Please don't interupt! It's rude. I really do not see that 'sighing' because your class is too easy for him is an offence serious enough to warrant a phone call to me. Put some more work in front of the child and be done with it. And do not call me at home again unless my son has done something seriously wrong, or has lost at least half his blood, ok?!"

Click.

True story. My eldest son was standing next to me during this conversation, and was absolutely gobsmacked :)

Uhhh, would you consider that the kids have too much contact with really disturbed teachers..?..

You'd think a school would be able to spot a gifted child versus one with a disability. This just shows that many schools these days aren't focused on the kids, but the process. Congrats on your bright son, Nipples. Keep him challenged and he'll go far.

Actually, it isn't.
yes, it is.

they're supposed to recognise each child's abilities, figure out each child's best method for learning, and recognise the signs of possible learning disabilities. and then fill in the paperwork.

Tee Ball schools. Everyone gets a trophy.

The kids know whos a dummy and whos a brainiac, but the schools are clueless.

Studies were done to see if 'plants' could fool psychiatrists about bogus mental disorders. The plants always fooled the docs but never fooled the other patients.

These aren't the responses I was expecting... or deserving. :D

The school should have noticed something other than the negative stuff. They persisted with it for the past 3 years to the point where we were looking to move to a different neighborhood.

My mother always claimed he was too smart and got bored easily. I always laughed it off because she's one of those proud grandmothers that has the perfect grandchildren and the smartest blah blah... I really hate to tell her she was right.

They tested me because they thought was one of those gifted kids that was always getting in trouble in school for not paying attention.
Let's just say when the test results came back I never heard such salty language from a nun before in my life.

Your 6-year-old has been going to public school since he was 3? How does that work?
