The Construction Thread

My sister is a civil engineer. She used to go crazy at how the title 'engineer' was included with those who do not have a degree in engineering. I think it was more about how she would be lead on a project and in essence not given the respect due on a site.

eh, whatever.

Respect on site is earned. i don't care how many letters you have after your name, you still have to earn respect.

lol, true, and oy, I knew I wasn't that clear when I wrote it. Besides the respect thing, she felt the title 'engineer' was, sheesh, I am at a loss for words today... that anyone can all themselves an engineer and she felt those who have an engineer degree should be the only ones called engineer.

I just posted and commented because it reminded me of her so much.

I did not agree with her. Then again, I did not agree with her on many things. She was a pompous ass!

I work with a lot of engineers. I understand that it takes a bit of moxie for females to get into and stay in the biz. A snot nose outta school with a degree, is still a snot nose. A pompous snot nose gets put into their place pretty quick. Some say you're not supposed to tell the kids they are wrong, because it might push them out of the biz, but if you don't, how will they learn.

Some new faces in here, welcome....now enough with the concrete talk, a most ignoble building material.

Road Construction gets a bum wrap in this thread.

Anyone want to speculate on bitumen substitutes when oil starts getting tight? Er, tighter.
