Christians suck

"there is absolutely no evidence that a god exists at all, and since there are volumes and volumes of evidence that there is definitely no Christian God as outlined by virtually any of the Christian holy books"

Then why is there something instead of nothing?

Richard Feynman was atheist but said that something vs nothing is a problem atheists cant explain.

Discussions about religious beliefs can be terribly unexciting yet uninteresting.

Science has not get developed an experimentally testable, definitive answer to this question. So clearly we should ask people who have absolutely no evidence to back their assertions for their random and remarkably self-serving WAG.

Religion used to be very self-satisfied that it knew where the Sun went at night. They would torture people who asserted, provided argument, or provided evidence that they were wrong on their where-does-the-sun-go conjectures. They've mostly lost the power to torture people, and certainly lost the credibility to make unsubstantiated claims to knowledge of the physical universe, in the intervening centuries.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice... you can't get fooled again.

You're welcome to your illusions, and if they make you happy, I'm truly glad for you--community, shared culture, and ceremony are all wonderful, self-justifying things. But if you want to use the coercive power of the State to enforce your sky-man beliefs, I'm sorry but you're going to have to move to a country someplace else.

You try to change the subject. We get it that youre pissed with baby Jesus. I dont care for Jesus myself. But pissed at Jesus doesnt get you closer to the truth.

lol not pissed with Jesus at all. He's been dead for two millennia--that'd have to be a hell of a grudge. I'm not even bothered by his followers per se. I'm bothered by his followers who want to use the coercive power of the state to punish those who aren't part of his sky-man cult, while simultaneously convincing themselves that they're a persecuted minority who have SUCH a rough time of it.

I save my being-pissed for more worthwhile things that loathing the dead.

Most people dont like Christians but assholes dont discredit design.

Most people dont like Christians but assholes dont discredit design.

No, design falls on its own merits to the scrutiny of a middle schooler.

Design posits that person is capable of imagining that there exists something outside of the observable material universe, and that that something did something to initiate our own universe makes absolutely no predictions within the material universe, and so is utterly useless. But moreover, all it does is create an even greater recursion: if it's amazing that there's something rather than nothing, isn't it even more amazing that there's something-capable-of-creating-something, rather than nothing?

But in any case, Christianity does not posit a mere deist designer, so that's quite irrelevant.

God is more than a little ridiculous. I think He's claiming credit for what was already there.

Job 38
The LORD Speaks
1 Then the LORD spoke to Job out of the storm. He said:
2 “Who is this that obscures my plans with words without knowledge?
3 Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me.
4 “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand.
5 Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it?
6 On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone—
7 while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?
8 “Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb,
9 when I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness,
10 when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place,
11 when I said, ‘This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt’?
12 “Have you ever given orders to the morning, or shown the dawn its place,
13 that it might take the earth by the edges and shake the wicked out of it?
14 The earth takes shape like clay under a seal; its features stand out like those of a garment.
15 The wicked are denied their light, and their upraised arm is broken.
16 “Have you journeyed to the springs of the sea or walked in the recesses of the deep?
17 Have the gates of death been shown to you? Have you seen the gates of the deepest darkness?
18 Have you comprehended the vast expanses of the earth? Tell me, if you know all this.
19 “What is the way to the abode of light? And where does darkness reside?
20 Can you take them to their places? Do you know the paths to their dwellings?
21 Surely you know, for you were already born! You have lived so many years!
22 “Have you entered the storehouses of the snow or seen the storehouses of the hail,
23 which I reserve for times of trouble, for days of war and battle?
24 What is the way to the place where the lightning is dispersed, or the place where the east winds are scattered over the earth?
25 Who cuts a channel for the torrents of rain, and a path for the thunderstorm,
26 to water a land where no one lives, an uninhabited desert,
27 to satisfy a desolate wasteland and make it sprout with grass?
28 Does the rain have a father? Who fathers the drops of dew?
29 From whose womb comes the ice? Who gives birth to the frost from the heavens
30 when the waters become hard as stone, when the surface of the deep is frozen?
31 “Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades? Can you loosen Orion’s belt?
32 Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons or lead out the Bear with its cubs?
33 Do you know the laws of the heavens? Can you set up God’s dominion over the earth?

My position is that I do not know if God exists or not but I'm not going out of my way to piss him off if he does.

Wow, and I didn't even start this thread.

Actually, some christians I know are annoying, some are not.
Some atheists I know are annoying, some are not.
