MONTPELIER — People in more than two dozen Vermont towns sent a message to Washington on Tuesday that they want Congress to begin the process of amending the U.S. Constitution to ensure that corporations are not treated the same as people.

<snip>

Supporters of the personhood amendment want Congress to begin the process of amending the Constitution to overrule the Supreme Court's 2010 Citizens United decision, which critics say has unleashed huge amounts of unregulated money into the presidential election process.

Corporations being people leads to dogs wanting to be people.

Sounds utterly frivolous to me. Just part of the "hate the rich" narcissistic mentality of too many Americans.

You'd think they'd quote, or post a link to, the actual wording of such an Amendment. I'd like to see WTF they're talking about.

"Personhood amendment", eh? That's gonna confuse the pants off pro-lifers.

vermont is literally the best state.

Does it include the NEA, Planned Parenthood, Trial Lawyers etc ?

What does Vermont offer this nation other than Ben and Jerrys? Granted that's a big thing but it's not quite worth statehood. That's more of a Guam-worthy thing.

Considering corporate "personhood" is based on litagion under the 14th Amendment, I think it's probably a good idea.

Nothing at all. You should stay out. All of you.

If you should happen to drive through, don't forget your complimentary New Yorker on your way out.

A New Yorker that gives compliments? I never would have guessed such a critter existed. Maybe that's why they're in Vermont-exiled from the Big apple....

On a cloudy day in the dead of winter it gets dark (as in night time dark) at about 3:30 in the afternoon.

It I'm not mistaken, they have a state historical marker identifying the exact spot where manic-depression was first discovered.

Ahh, the old axiom of unintended consequences. Without McCain-Feingold would have this been necessary? Will this apply to unions as well? Can the constitution be amended in such a way so as to contradict itself? How will this have any effect on the individual contributions to 'advocacy' groups?

Nah, not buying it at all. Let the bastards stew in the juices that they, and they alone, created. After all the majority of those laws were enacted for their own protection, not for any greater public good. And this proposal is poorly thought out as well.
