Just read the other post. If I did not know anything about you, didn't know your attitude, I would have kinda been able to see where you were coming from. I would have thought, "Oh, this guy doesn't know anything about dogs by never having owned one. He thought that it peed on his car as a sign of ownership, like they do on the TV."

However, having known you and reading it now, I gotta say that rather then sending your kid inside and calling animal control like a normal person, since the dog, to be off leash in that neighborhood, and to have the guy go door-to-door and whatnot, the other folk most likely knew him. If they'd called before, animal control would have taken the dog. I've had to call animal control on dogs before. You'd have had to spend those additional few minutes with your client inside. If they hadn't, then you would have been overreacting, and could have gotten the owner to pay to clean your car, because you had witnesses. Instead, you chose to shoot a dog.

So... it sounds kinda like you wanted to shoot something. You didn't even say he growled. He pissed and "tensed up". Dogs tense and piss when they're scared, LJ. You shot because it was a big dog and you were scared of it, even though it didn't do anything but piss. I can understand getting pissed, I love Dobermans and I've seen many of them piss- their bladders are HUGE and I'm sure it made a giant mess. But retconning it to try and make it look like you were saving your family is pretty low.

I am in no way shocked by that behavior from you, though.

I've never been bitten by a dog, not even the dogs that are tied up by their owners because they bite everyone. I don't know why I've been so lucky. But I do know when a dog is going to bite, and I know to get away from it.

Judge to sentence mother for abuse

A WOMAN will be sentenced later this week for the “huge” neglect of her five children which left them with severe and long-term psychological difficulties.

The court heard the children, who were then ranging in age from two to nine years old, were left underfed and dirty.

They had inappropriate clothing, insufficient schooling and were not toilet-trained.

The local sergeant who led the investigation told Isobel Kennedy SC, prosecuting, that after they were taken into care, one of the children ate incessantly until he got sick and none of them knew how to use a toilet, wash or when to change their clothes.

All the children were behind academically though one of the foster parents described one of the boys as being very bright.

The children’s 34-year-old mother, who cannot be named to protect the children’s identity, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to 10 counts of neglecting the children between May 2005 and September 2007.

Her husband (44) has already been convicted of neglect of children and sexual abuse and rape of a young girl by a Central Criminal Court jury. He has also a further conviction of sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl from the UK.

I think he just didn't know anything about dogs and got scared and trigger-happy because it was 1: big and 2: pissed on his car. And people who don't know dogs are easily scared of Dobermans. And, in the states, the poor owner had no legal recourse. Obviously, the rest of the neighborhood wasn't scared, but LT was new there. There are a lot of people like that in the states, actually. It's horrible, but it isn't shocking. The amount of animal abuse here is staggering. That's why my dog is sitting right here beside me and doesn't go out without me. But, we do have outdoor dogs, and I have had one shot before- and it did piss me off. But like I said, it's not illegal. Non-human animals are not considered murder, and a quick death is not considered animal cruelty.

As to why he would fire a gun that close to a baby, which could completely destroy the developing eardrums and render the child deaf for life instead of kicking the thing in the head, since Doberman's are long-snouted dogs and can be killed by a swift kick to the nose, I honestly don't understand. Maybe he had a silencer? I mean, he doesn't specify what kind of gun it was. You could take down a dog with a little .22 or something, I guess. Weird, but... I guess, understandable?

I'm not going to defend Limbaugh's personal attacks. They were out of line. What I do oppose, though, is the double standard. After his insults (and subsequent apology), there's a concerted effort to get him crucified. However, where was the same righteous indignation after Sharon Osborne laughed at a man getting mutilated (including giggling through the "apology" that followed)? If liberals are truly concerned about standing up for equal rights, then where was their condemnation of her from AlterNet or ThinkProgress?
