Damn Disgrace

I don't put much stock in that brand of medicine. Men don't need to sit around and get all touchy feely with their feelings.

LOL I hate that...always makes me wonder if I'm a sociopath because I'm not all boo hoo over dead buddies or shooting people.

I think a large number of PTSD cases are people sucking on the teat and in need of a good smack upside the head but an even larger number are real. Even as a volunteer there is no way of knowing what combat is like. There is no frame of reference for it for even the most inner-city hardened kid. You think you can handle killing and being hunted and on constant alert but really most people can't.

I don't care what anyone says or what kinda tough guy front people put up, even the most hardcore soldier who handles combat like a fucking klingon or something will end up with signs of wear and tear given enough time. I don't have PTSD but after 4 1/2 years worth of combat deployments I assure you I am plenty nutty. Some say combat fucks everyone in the head a little bit, I say it just changes your perspective of the world we live in.

You mean this market: Stock futures fall on eurozone recession fears
A report shows significant declines in household spending and manufacturing throughout Europe. Global markets tumble. Gold and oil decline.

Fully recovered Obamarket.

At the risk of being outted as the board shit-head... I have a bit of a problem with this PTSD. Every single person who served in the war(s) volunteered to do so; and nearly all of them volunteered after the wars started. What did they think they were signing up for? Did they think they'd go over there and hand out candy? It seems to me there probably are some 'real' problems, but it also seems like some of them need to pull up the big boy pants and get over it.

Here's a prime example of lack of experience talking. As KR pointed out ,there are some who are sucking on the teat, but many, many others who are suffering from PTSD. It manifests it's self in many different ways. A friend of mine slept with a loaded .357 under his pillow for a long time. His wife quit sleeping with him and his 4 year old daughter wasn't allowed in the bedroom when he was asleep. That all came to a head one night when he was a awakened by frogs croaking. He spent the next ten minutes stomping around out side screaming in rage and shooting at frogs. His wife left that night and refused to return until he got treatment, which he did.

I can relate at least 3 or 4 more cases I'm personally familiar with.

Yea, it's real. Only those who are stubbornly close minded or lack any kind of experience in such matters believe otherwise.

As for this particular case, I have yet to see anything offered to substantiate the father's claim. If I can find it, then I'll be very pissed. The Government and VA in particular has a history of screwing vets. Until then though, because there are those who lie about such things (who knows why) , I'll reserve my outrage for those things that are proven.

So your friend was duped into joining the military? Someone told him it would be just like the cub scouts with camping and s'mores?

Johnny, I used to feel the same way you did. I've since met some folks who served in Iraq and now believe that it's definitely "real". There may be some shitstains out there that exaggerate their effects, but I personally know of two people that came out of that meat grinder in Iraq "mentally broken".:(

Vetteman's partisan outrage rears its ugly head again. I'll have another minute for his opinions on the government's treatment of veterans when he posts all the conservative/Republican attempts to cut treatment for them.

Faggot.

Maybe, all Veterans should get the same Health Care as politicians, or better still, maybe all politicians should be required to serve in the Armed Forces. Sometimes I crack myself up, but I will just keep looking for someplace to attach my skyhook.

I would support either of these, but only if there's a "national service" opt out for those who don't want to serve in the armed forces. You know, something like being an actor or a student or the mayor of a small town in Alaska.

Like RightField, he blames his inadequacies as a husband, father and provider on the federal government.

But that would make too much sense. Where would all the fun be in a thread like that? ;)

For all eight years of the Bush admin, there were threads citing how Republicans wanted to cut benefits to veterans, cut funding for the VA, etc, etc...and there was very little of this manufactured outrage from the board circlejerks.
