Why are there licks for musical instruments other than the guitar? That makes no fucking sense at all.
You think the term came from Hendrix playing with his teeth?
"Ain't got a lick o' sense" was a common expression among the early blues culture. They morphed it to "lick o' music."
That's my theory.
There's one Louis Armstrong trumpet break, I think it's Jazz Lips or Hot Potato Blues, been stuck in my head for years.
but more to the point, who do you like on the horn?
I just read a fantastic book that brushes against the topic of the seattle jazz scene before and during WW II. It had me digging through some CDs and records from a previous season in my life.
What book and what music?
The book is titled "Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet"
And I have been listening to Dave Brubeck, Duke Ellington, Candi Dulfer, Flim and the B Bs.
What's it about? Must read, or just good read?
I dunno the last two. I'm really digging Tomasz, though.
I think it is a really really good read. I am not sure it is on my must read list-- but it brushes against grief, the Seattle jazz scene, Japanese internment camps and the challenges of being a first generation American. I devoured it in a single sitting.
As for Flim and the BBs, I don't love all of their stuff but I am in love with a song called New Snow.
Sounds cool. Who wrote it?
Lazy girl! Here's a link for those unintiated, like me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2uz9W3vxU8
It was written by Jamie Ford.
I don't really think you're lazy.
I know... I just couldn't come up with a witty response. I wasn't offended.
