How do the toplists work?

I'm a little confused. I have a couple stories in the 12 months toplist and a few in the 30 days toplist. The 'all time' hotlist goes from 4.88 to 4.80 but I have a story that scored 4.82 that isn't in the toplist. It has ninety one votes.

Is there some kind of time limit? Or a way that number of votes can pull certain stories to the top?

I'm confused.

There's a vote limit. I think it varies from category to category, but 100 may be the mininum when the story goes beyond the current list and then it may become even more restricted on older lists.

And there are glitches. One of my pen names has a straight 5 from a bunch of votes and hasn't made any top list.

It's a minimum of a 100 votes for the all time list.

I have a bunch in the mid 4.8's but they are all around 80 votes so don't qualify past being in the twelve month list.

Yes, quite a few more than 10. But that's OK; it's not arms and legs.

Still sucks a 5.0 would look good.

Then again it would just be a bulls eye.

I hit #1 all time 3 different times and within hours was trolled down, due to the fanatical followers of some incest series called Colleen

Amazing people are that petty. Especially in the case of "Colleen" the author has net been seen or heard from in years, so I believe this is not them, but fans of the series.

It was their one bombing brigade that drove Eldgerin00 to pull his immensely popular Conflicted series from Lit.

Difference is the Top lists aren't any form of competition, there is no first prize, blue W cash or anything else, and yet people stalk it waiting to hammer a story that is not their fav.

And the sweeping and rigging is done by the site not fanatic fans of long gone writers.

It's tempting fate to remark on a superlative like that on the forum, yes. Probably not a big one in relation to the top list, though, because the buzzards tend to manipulate that list anyway.

For overall guidance on how you're doing, I suggest checking the "most popular" author lists on the category pages. The register current, 7 day, and 30 day. The 30 day list gives you a better long-haul guage. These lists appear to be taken from a combination of views and favoriting, and favoriting (both stories and authors) is the least manipulable of the voting mechanisms.

There is an all time list for each category. So yours would be on the all time Gay male there is not an all encompassing all time list.

Although is you go to the homepage and click the "sneak peek" link you can find things like top 250 most commented stories/ voted stories things like that.

But each category has its own 30/12 month/ and all time lists.

The sweeps were set up to stop people like scouries and the fanatical fans as you call them from playing havoc with everyone else's stories. It is not perfect but then again there is never anything perfect on the intertnet.

For your information and several other people who have wondered why the site has had problems with things like voting stars and being able to get into the new story board. This site started as a hobby for Laurel and Manu and has gotten way bigger than they ever imagined. They have tried to keep up but I believe they are just plain tired of the 24/7 job this thing has turned into.
