-why would we want to "debunk" jesus? his doctrine of universal love, calls to eschew riches and material wealth, and emphasis on the plight of the poor and suffering make him beloved of any liberal worth his salt. we may, of course, disagree with many popular interpretations of christ's message, especially those who misinterpret his teachings in hateful or selfish ways, but that's a completely different matter.

-we'll say lots of negative words about islamic extremists or anyone else who chooses to show religious devotion through violence, but we realize that extremists represent an extremely small percentage of the overall muslim population of the world. the central tenets of islam are peace, unity, and tolerance, but these are frequently misapplied and corrupted by zealots. however, the vast majority of muslims are just ordinary and kind people like you and me, with regular jobs and cares.

-in the 8th century, when Muhammad lived, marriages were usually arranged at an extremely young age, and not just in arabic cultures but in Europe too. yeah, that was pretty fucked up, but reports that he consummated his marriage with Aisha when she was still 10 are widely unconfirmed, highly disputed by modern scholars, and likely the product of anti-semitic (remember, some arabs are semites too!) propoganda disseminated throughout europe during the crusades.
