I can see why Mitt would need a running mate viewed as a true social conservative, and Mcdonnell is definitely that. Hes about as anti-gay and anti-women as a governor gets.

Depends on what political calulation Mitt's stategist make, once (if?) he gets the nom. Not sure he would be a tactically wise desicion.

He could energize the most conservative part of the base that hates Mitt with red hot passion, the same way Palin did for McCain, and doesn't seem to have her shortcoming of being an intellectual gnat.

On the other hand, it will be entirely up to the magic of Mitt to appeal to anyone else than the social conservatives for whom McDonnell is a "oh hell no" candidate, with his 19th century stance on socialissues. Fair or not, he'll be hammered as the "Vaginal probe candidate" by every left leaning PAC with attack ad money to spend.

I think there are a handful of very big, poor choices Mcdonnell has made, everything from rejecting an equal wage bill for men and women, to the adoption agencies can reject you based on your political affiliation stance, but I agree, he will go into the campagine as the," government in your vagina" governor.

While hes backed off the vaginal probe part .. he's still more then happy that the government have a say in medical procedures. Hes planning to sign it, as long as the ultrasound be noninvasive A step in the right direction but not enough.
