What does this look say to you?

what a gorgeous puppy!!!

He/she definitely did something wrong....

and actually, that is the look I get when I pull out the camera.

Actually, you're a lucky dog owner if that is the look you get from your animal. She makes good eye contact, and keeps her head lowered just a little bit. She is saying that she is attentive to your next action/words and that she knows you are boss. If she's getting into the garbage you need to train her out of it, she could be doing it for attention, or as an anxiety issue. But with a look like that, I would bet on her getting into things not being an act of aggression or naughtiness on purpose.

I need to crate her at night, is what I need to do. Thanks.

I think you have to worry if she starts doing the duck lips when you bring out the camera.

No you don't. You need to figure out why she behaves the way she does. There is a reason, and it's a reason you can retrain, you just need to figure out what that reason is, then figure out a way to stop her from following through and getting into things.

I personally believe crating a dog for any reason other than traveling is bordering on abusive. Not everyone feels this way. I am ok with that, it doesn't change the way I feel personally.

But she pees in the house at night and gets in the trash. Not good times.

Have you looked in to medical reasons for her peeing in the house at night? Is it only at night? If you left her alone for the same amount of time only during the day would she do it? Does she pee near the door to get out or just anywhere? How old is the dog? Is she spayed? Does she have any known medical issues that could cause incontinence or the inability to hold it in? Have you had her urine tested for bladder infection? Does she do this every night or is there some other pattern to it?

The garbage is an easy fix, remove it from her sight. Keep it in the garage, or get a taller garbage can with a locking lid. Keep it under the sink and put a lock on the cupboard.

Figuring out why she is peeing in the house is a bigger issue, and if it were me I would be looking into medical reasons for her peeing inside.

Train her. Work with her. Start by taking her for long walks when she shows signs of wanting to potty. Establish a pattern of same 'potty' times. Rub her nose in it at first. Dogs learn through repetition. Hide the trash and make her understand what the word 'No' means every time she does something you disagree with. The quicker she learns, the better.

When she starts looking for a place to potty or goes to the door, then you know she is beginning to understand. I am not a fan of putting a dog in a cage, unless it is for a specific situational reason for a very short time. Some dogs see that as a sign of being punished unreasonably and does little to boost their confidence in wanting to please their owner.

You are right, she needs to see a vet. Maybe he can help me. Thanks.

Have you had her trained?

Taking her out a few times prior to going to bed can help that..and giving her a treat when she pees outdoors will work.

That acknowledgement works better than being punished...

I can't punish her, other than a look and stern words. I tell her "no potty in house." Shake my finger and tell her no, no, no.

I think she needs to see a vet, maybe there is a reason she can't hold it all the time.

Knowing the dog's past relation with previous owner would be a big help. If the previous owner did potty train her, those habits will come back.

She could also be a submissive wetter.... so yes, take her to the vet.

Most female dogs are.... :rose: She is beautiful.
