An honest analysis would admit that there were, had to be, salacious texts exchanged before the adult's mistake (in retrospect) of a "reveal". I think it's more likely that the boy didn't quite believe he was really exchanging texts with an adult and was shaken by the visual. Lots of kids flirt and stretch the limits of their sexuality with adults. It doesn't mean that they are "asking for it" or know the full implications of their behavior.
