VA's forced ultrasound is just like having sex.

goodbye morning after pill.
Many forms of contraception, in addition to preventing ovulation, also thin the uterine wall to help prevent a fertilized egg from implanting. Technically if the law is written the way it was reported in that article it may outlaw many usual forms of birth control, not just the morning after pill.

No, it's to force them to see it. It's their whole point. They figure if the woman sees the living fetus she will change her mind. In many cases that is probably true.

Actually, surveys have shown that seeing the ultrasounds doesn't change their minds.

BTW, how come I don't see all our Libertarian/ individual rights/ small government fraternity jumping all over this story screaming about fascism?

They'll claim it's all about states' rights, and ignore the fact that this particular state is sponsoring rape (by the FBI's definition of rape).

I'm glad that the wingnut agenda is coming to light in so many ways BEFORE the next election.
:D

I always forget that when some people talk about small government, they don't mean small government. Only small federal government.

Anything to try and hide the misogyny.

Who could possibly have imagined that in 2012 we would be battling over the right to birth control. Birth control?? Jesus, that is the fight our mothers and grandmothers fought 40 years ago. And we're right back there again? Regressive politics, indeed.

I would link Petula Dvorak again, but I have tossed out that column of hers on this topic four or five times already.

In other good news, this ridiculunk mentality will bring out women voters in droves this year. Just sayin'... sometimes asstardery has a plus side.

QFT...

America needs to return to it's roots and core values.

Segregation will make a comeback in 2012.

And even then it was more a medical issue then a social one if my grandma and great-grandma were to be believed. In my great-grandma's generation, the infant mortality rate was apparently ridiculously high- she was always really proud that all 13 of her kids lived- she talks like she's a damned super-woman for it. It was apparently really, ridiculously difficult to get them past the age of 3. She said that if you got them to their 4th birthday, you knew that they were going to be alright. And the number of women who died in childbirth was also staggering- she had lost so many friend from complications during childbirth- and then it was hard to get formula if you didn't breastfeed.

She said that if they got a batch of condoms down here, they would be sold out the same day- because they were just hard to get. And no one would go on this mystery "pill" because it was then still being billed as hormone therapy, and no one knew what that meant or wanted to change their body chemistry just not to have kids. More kids meant more farmhands, so there's no way in hell they were gonna risk those side-effects in a time when overpopulation was not a major concern.

I remember my grandma saying that the pill was a social thing when it first came out- in big cities. Here, it was a necessity, not for birth control, but because the mining companies had just come in and started clearing and there was coal slurry EVERYWHERE in your water, in your plants (everyone gardened back then) and therefore in your food. Hormone therapy was seen as a way to not get cancer- which turned out to be (mostly) a bullshit lie designed to take poor women for what little cash they had. They sued the hell out of Blue Diamond over the slurry thing, but if you raised your own food, and everyone did, then you still had to poison your kids.

Then we started all this factory farming bullshit in my mom's generation and she was on "birth control" until her eventual cancer and hysterectomy when I was in my teens. I really don't understand where we get off calling synthetic progesterone and estrogen "birth control"- they are hormone therapy- and I feel like if we called them that, then anyone objecting to them would sound way more like the asshole they are- because it was obvious that they were trying to take away medication, and not promiscuity enhancers. Though, last time I checked it was a free country and you could fuck anyone you wanted, anyway- so it might be a moot point. I just think it's dangerous to tell, say, the 8-year old with endemetreosis (someone I was very close to) that she couldn't have the medication that may keep her from developing cancer that she can't have her medicine because she's a slut. That's just fucking retarded. And if anyone can see that any other way- I agree with Farnsworth. I just don't want to live on this planet anymore. The vast majority of women on "birth control" are on it for hormone therapy. It doesn't even work as a "birth control" it tells you right on the pharmacy instructions that you have to use a secondary form like condoms or spermicide. That 99% effectiveness is only if your hormones are naturally perfectly regulated- which is a medical anomaly. Again- it tells you that right there on the instructions.

It kinda makes sense, I guess, that asshole guys who don't go with their women to the doctor and hold her hand while she gets her depo shot because she's scared of needles- wouldn't know that. If they want to be assholes their entire lives. But there's no excuse for a woman not to know it.

I for one look forward to the day they make all Texans and Floridians sit at the back of the bus. They've been allowed to get uppity for too long now.

Not in VA... Sodomy laws here ya know! Crimes against nature.

holy moly welcome to the dark ages. Looks like my plans on Vagirl07 has to be put on hold or gotta take her in west virginia where sodomy is a way of life

Virginia's Sodomy Law

Virginia outlaws consensual sexual behavior between adults with 18.2-361, "Crimes against nature". This prohibits the making or consenting to such sexual contact a Class 6 felony, punishable by a term of imprisonment not less than one year nor more than five years, or a confinement in jail for not more than twelve months and a fine of not more than $2,500, either or both.

Virginia also bans voluntary sexual intercourse between unmarried persons with code section 18.2-344 - Fornication. This is punishable as a Class 4 misdemeanor which imposes a fine of not more than $250 upon a successful conviction.

Lewd and lascivious cohabitation is also prohibited in Virginia and is punishable as a Class 3 misdemeanor upon a first successful conviction which carries a fine of not more than $500. Subsequent convictions are punishable as Class 1 misdemeanors which have a sentence of not more than twelve months in jail and a fine of not more than $2,500, either or both. All parties cohabiting are subject to prosecution.

Of particular note is Virginia's traditional model for sexual crimes in which the wife is considered property and is considered to always consent to the husband's sexual advances unless serious injury took place during the event. Virginia's rape law, 18.2-61 states that "no person shall be found guilty under this subsection unless, at the time of the alleged offense, (i) the spouses were living separate and apart, or (ii) the defendant caused serious physical injury to the spouse by the use of force or violence." Identical language exists for Virginia's Forcible sodomy law, 18.2-67.1.

I finally have to ask ... whats with all the FL references? I'm assuming an older user who was particularly silly was from FL?
