I've been juicing.

We're all going to die. It's just simpler to take daily vitamins and watch the red meat intake.

I'm not worried about dying... it's the constant painful migraines I want to get rid of.
That, and the heavy painkillers I need to take to control them.
I saw this quite by accident, and thought I'd give it a try.
It won't do damage, and it's not like I haven't tried all sorts of other quackery in the past to try and stop the headaches.

It's the most popular brand.

I researched it and researched it. Studied and researched. Bought a Champion. Used it regularly for about 6 months and then it went in the cupboard to make rare and occasional appearances.

I realized chewing was easier.

The least you can do is use it as a dust collector, much as I do mine.

It has something to do with detoxing and rebooting the body. At least, that's what the blurb says.
I'm guessing it has more to do with the fact that there will be absolutely zero processed foods being ingested during the juice fast... meaning no artificial contaminants to deal with.
Who knows what kind of chemical crap goes into our foods these days.

I could see this working in the sense that you can eliminate foods and chemicals in your diet that might be causing migraines. You could keep a meticulous journal and see if you get a reaction when reintroducing any food or drink.

I told her this. She wants to believe in the juice, ergo it's the juice.

I kept a food journal for 2 years when we first began investigating the cause of my migraines.
But I've never totally eliminated all forms of processed food before - I was still having things like cheese, yoghurt, salt, sugars, caffeine, etc.
None of those appeared to trigger my headaches, but you never know.
So now I'm going right back to the complete beginning.
No processed foods of any kind, no meat, no dairy, nothing but juice and whole, raw fruit and veg for 15 days. Then I'll get my bloods done, and if all is good I will continue for the next 15 days.
After that, I will reintroduce foods at a rate of one kind a week (continueing the juicing and veg) and monitor what happens.

My doc assures me that being without dairy and meat-based protein for a month won't hurt me, although he insists I continue with vitamin D and fish oil throughout the month.

See above :)

I read somewhere that juice is just sugar unwrapped from its fiber source and whenever you unwrap sugar from its fiber source, it can turn toxic in your body.

Now every now and then a nice glass of juice is okay, but you're going thirty days on juice alone?
I would reconsider.

really? got upset did she? are the veggies and fruits rude to each other?

I haven't heard of such a thing, but I am mostly ignorant of much.

*snort*

All I an think of is that anything with Vitamin C- like Oranges, Lemons etc will boost the properties of Iron high veggies and aid the iron absorption - like kale, green beans and broccoli, and beetroot.
Generally all dark green leafy veggies will be high(er) in iron :)
Cucumber is great if you want to add the "water", it has little taste and will go with almost everything...

Juicing is good, probably good for you but too much to clean afterwards....i like using a blender, keeps the fiber intact

Rarely do I break out the juicer, too much clean-up. I, too use my blender when I get the urge.

Juicing, a lot of work for a smoothie.....right? I dont think that juice keeps in the fridge...

Yes. You must drink it soon, for it separates and if you haven't added lemon juice to it, it turns brown. Well, and tastes awful. Freeze the leftovers if so inclined. But fresh is best for flavour and appearance. A little yogurt or milk is nice.

If that's the case, then every spoonful of sugar you put in your tea/coffee is toxic.

I'm doing 15 days to start, and if all goes well, I'll continue for another 15.
And no, I'm not doing just juice... I'm doing juice, plus raw vegetables and fruits, plus 2 litres filtered water every day.
The idea for me is to get rid of as much residual chemical from my body as possible, and then reintroduce foods that are as natural as I can keep them, in the hope that I can eliminate whatever it is that keeps giving me migraines.

I'm now beginning to wonder if it could be the plastic lining from inside cans that is somehow responsible.
We eat a LOT of canned beans, tuna and crushed tomatoes here.
And I'm hearing about how almost every can failed the BPA test.

You all keep saying it's a lot of cleanup... my food processor is harder to clean than my juicer!
And I got the one with the larger chute, so I don't have to cut things up.

Well, it is. Has this damn strainer that needs scouring and gets all junked up with the fiber that I happen to like consuming.
*grumps*

*serious grumping*

I think I better shower now. And a cuppa, too.

As long as I put the strainer into hot water immediately, most of the stuff comes off, and then I just need to give it a swipe with the brush to get the residual stuff out.
I have recipes for the fibre... but not going to do any for the first 15 days (I will be eating fresh veg anyway - plus my worm farm will appreciate the cellulose!)
