This is the thread where we can all attempt to out-snob IndieSnob, the board's foremost authority on all things edgy-gritty in the music realm. He's like the Chuck Norris of music. He identifies cool shit before Pitchfork has even heard of it. In fact, they consult him for their 50 top albums of the year list. Indie bands come to him for advice on how to low-fi their sound. Robert Pollard has him on speed dial. Even his dreams are grainy and melodic. Tad Doyle once said that he was intimidated by Indie's brilliance. Srsly.

To start, I am going to dig into my favorite war chest when it comes to obscurity. Guided By Voices.

Echoes Myron, bitches.

Poll to follow on your own personal musical pretentiousness.

Let the smackdown begin.

I already tried this. Snob and I became snarky with one another.

It's all on you, Sin. Make us proud!!! :rose:

Has the US heard of Hollerado yet?

I haven't, but I can't speak for the music nation as a whole, as much as I'd love to be an egotistical asshole and say different.

Putting it on my list though.

Hey Bee? Can you explain Bon Iver to me, please? :D

(I suppose Gotye is too mainstream for this thread, huh?)

I'd explain Bon Iver to you, but I don't even want to define them for myself.

It's not that they are bad, they are just not my cup of tea.

My cousin and I had an e-mail going between the two of us with about 50 replies back and forth arguing over them.

He thinks they are hot shit, while I think they are I could listen to this album once a year and not think about it again.

Oh, thank god. I thought perhaps I was losing my mind.

RE: Hollerado

Canadian bands can never, ever gain top-tier indie band status by virtue of their birthplace.

KIDDING!

I love Arcade Fire. Swears. The Suburbs got me through my divorce.

Now I'm curious about Hollerado. Link some of the songs you like, pretty please.

So this made me think about an article I read the other day about working with people who have a dementia.

The suggestion is when people have dementia they relate to the music of their youth - when they were in their 20s and 30s. I wonder if that will hold true for people who musically grew up with the internets?

What will be the music that you will sing along with when you are old?

Alright, I've got two I could go with. Snob, how do you feel about Sam Beam?

Have you had the pleasure of getting to know Breakwall?

If not, do yourself a favor and do.

He's awesome...for being a stinking hoser ass canuck.

Heavy rotation here.

+1, except I have them in power rotation.
Of course, I spent most of Friday night mentally making out with a man while listening to them, so that may be coloring my judgment.
Love 'em.

I've ran into him at Lint and Clique a time or two. He seems like Tortoise - full of stellar music recommendations.

That concept is absolutely brilliant. Do you recall where you read that?
I'd be curious to see how that notion evolved over the next few decades of the internets, too.

Bon Iver, or Gotye?

If it's the former....tell me what I'm missing.

Goatye. Someone that I used to know is on every half hour

It's tough to link on my BB, but Hollerado is a poppy trippy band with quirky vids. Worth YouTubing for.

Oh, I second this.

Breakwall is THE SHIT.

I trust everything you say. ALWAYS. Everything.
Did you just send me a PM? I saw something about foodgasms rush into my inbox. I'm off to check.

I've just started to hear Someone I Used To Know on my XM, so I figured it was getting mainstream.
