Church in School

The libruls love it but the decision pisses off religious people who vote.

And you are cordially invited to kiss my ass, Nazi.

I'm a "librul" and I think it's a poor decision. Not renting out unused space is not the highest and best use of public property.

Giving the fact that the school system is flush with $ right now, who cares if they lose a little extra income from renting out on the weekends.....

lol
I actually dont understand the objection the school board has:confused: The churches are like any other social group, they pay to rent a space on the days when the school isn't in secession. Denying groups the opportunity to rent the space because they plan to pray there seems like a real reach for the state.

LOL...schools are only threatenin' secession in Texas. :p

We hold our Scouts meetings in the school too. Oh crap, the Scouts are a God-following organization! Get thee from me, take heed to thyself, see my face no more.

Sorry, slipped in to some Exodus there. It's what happens when you hold church in school, no matter that a school is a public property just like a shelter in a park.

We pay well over $2000 a year to use the school and school grounds for Scouting activities. There are several other organizations that do the same. When school is not in session the building is just...a building.

Not to threadjack or anything, but I seem to recall you promising to post a Very Special Post about your last Cub Scout meeting. Or did you decide to submit it as a story instead?

So now they can't have baccalaureate?
People are getting way too uptight about shit. It's not promoting a religion, it's not forcing anyone to do anything, it's not during school hours, they're paying for it. For fucks sake.

Good grief, it's not a school function, they're just renting space. Where's the harm in that?

Not that I'm trying to start something, I'm genuinely curious (gen-cur) as to why you titled this thread the way you did, TexasWife. Were you going for shock factor?

Heh, I suppose, but I also got the impression from the clip that that was sort of the way NYC was viewing the issue, that because the building is used as a school, you cant hold church there.

It just seemed like a silly way to view the "prayer in pubic school" issue

Are they renring at a discount because its a christian church? Or are they refusing to rent to other other religions? If the answer is no, then I don't get it. If the answer is yes, then I get it but can't be arsed to be upset about it.

Very well said, and I totally agree.

We had the reverse issue around here last summer; people got all up in arms over schools were using church space to hold their graduation ceremonies. The churches had more room! FFS.

No flaming please, Im simply stating this. There's a thing called Separation of Church and State. Also, churches have there own schools called Sunday Schools, correct? Why not use those?

People get so upset over the most trivial things.
Everyone seems to need a cause. Too bad they don't pick more worthwhile causes.

Makes you wonder why? People sometimes just need to get a grip.

When school is not in session it is any other public building. If a church is using the school to hold services it's because the church hadn't gotten enough members to build or buy their own building.

Please think things through before you beg not to be flamed.
