It's true. People who can't get this right are usually pretty stupid.

Lose/Loose. There are stories here I can't read because of the spelling errors.

I don't know what it is about lose/loose, but it seems like it's a mistake that just started happening recently and now everyone is doing it.

Worse for me is 'looser' instead of 'loser.'

Did RoryN loose an argument to Ish's son?

I tend to ignore grammar on the boards, mainly because I was upset with myself when I actually found that the posts I was reply to, I would correct prior to posting an answer.

I hated that about me.

I think it's hilarious when people actually don't know a word they're trying to use.

They "squash" an argument, for example, instead of quashing it.

There is also, once again, no such thing as "expresso."

I had never seen people replacing than with then until I came here, weird.

Oh and wierd too.

Your and You're.....

Your- possessive pronoun ie...your dog, your coat, your house

You're- You+are=You're .....a contraction....two words put together

You're welcome. you're going to school.....

grrr!

Oh, I don't know. I thought "cummerbund" was spelled "cumberbund" until I was 23, so I'm in no position to judge.

I used to be pretty harsh about spelling, but my newest pet peeve is people who accept and propagate blatantly untrue information. "If the earth were ten feet closer to the sun we would all catch on fire and if it were ten feet further we would all freeze!" No. So much no.

The inet has simply democratized the written word. Formerly, the misspellings of quasi-literates were largely confined to speech.

"your just jelly!"

"irregardless".

That one drives me nuts. It's particularly painful when a spelling error becomes so widespread that it becomes an accepted version. When "u" is an accepted version of "you" I'm moving ten feet closer to the sun.
