Why does Literotica refuse any fiction under 750 words?

Writing good flash fiction can be harder than long pieces - kinda like poetry without iambic pentameter...

It seems like an odd, arbitrary boundary.

Thanks,

Because they fucking don't wanna! Their site, their rules. Don't like'em post somewhere else, FFS!

BTW, I doubt greatly that Lit will "arbitrarily" miss your ass much.

You can post short stuff. One of our writers here in the AH, Ogg does it all the time with 50 word stories. He bundles them together in groups of 15 to make the 750 word count.

I don't see any reason you can't do the same.

I think the website was established before flash fiction became a recognized mode. Although only the owners know why they've set this limit (did you PM Laurel and ask?), I could see that they would set a minimum to keep the story list from being flooded with lots of really, really short pieces and because posting and keeping track of stories takes a lot of time, effort, and space--and would be the same effort requirement for a very short piece as for a long one.

You could group them together by some sort of theme and make the minimum without too much trouble. I've done it and others here have as well.

You can do it by posting sets of flash fiction - as I do, mentioned above - in sets of 15 fifty-word stories, OR you can post it as Poetry. There are no minimum word limits for 'poetry'.

each Lit story page includes 10KB of advertisements. 750 words, plus formatting codes and spaces, makes for a (barely) acceptable minimum ratio of content to advertisements.

You might also consider posting it in The Playground thread "Erotic Fantascenes" if you're just looking to get some readers right now. You can always post it on to the stories section with a collection later.

Thanks everyone (except troll)(and wow is that a lot of troll posts or what??).
I will take a run at grouping them as suggested.

Mine work best with a little tease and anticipation building from one to the next, which is lost with just jumping from one line to another.

But I can also see the point that Weird Harold and sr71plt make.

Actually, there is a form of flash fiction, at the top of this forum. It's described as "Writers' Challenges." and authors here are challenged to write a story in a certain number of words, such as 100. The continuing thread was placed there by Management, so they can't be too much opposed to flash fiction.

There was a Flash Fiction submittal thread here a couple years back that ran for several months with a lot of contributors of which I was one. I'm too lazy to sift through the archives to find it, but it may be of interest to you. There were stories with 100 word and 50 word limits as I recall.

It's in the Challenges thread at the top of the page.

Um, that ain't the one I was referring to. This was around two years ago ... maybe three. I think it was titled 'What's your 100 word story' or something like that.

Yes, I remember that thread (and contributed a couple of stories). I don't think it ran very long, though.
