pick a pocket or two!

Just back from an evening at the The-ay-tor (we is posh so we say it posh yer see?) watching Oliver! It was bloody brilliant. Now I have Oliver tunes lodged in mah brainz.

Anyone else like musicals? Going to take my sis to see Phantom of the Opera in London for her birthday this year (it's a special age year this year) and Oliver was her Christmas present. Yes, we're now of an age where we go to watch musicals to celebrate big occasions, we're not getting any younger you know! ;)

I really like Phantom of the Opera. Also really enjoyed Jesus Christ Superstar when it came here.

My all time favorite, however, is Les Miserables.

The gal who played Nancy in the performance of Oliver I've just watched has been cast in the movie version of Les Miserables I seem to think Russel Crowe was mentioned as being in it too. She was told the other night on stage, it was on our local news 'cos she's a local lass, well, pretty local, she's from the Isle of Man.

Nice! Hopefully they will do a good job casting the movie with people who can sing well, versus "A" listers who can't. Not sure how well Crowe would be in a singing role in this production.

I would have loved to have been there! Fagin has some funny songs. What about the doggie? I love to hear him bark. It's comical!

I loved Phantom. I've seen Wicked a few times, as well as Lion King, Mamma Mia!, and a few others. Dinner and a musical is a great way to spend an evening, IMO.

I Love going to the Theatre

Les Miserables is my all time fav.
Loved Phantom of the Opera which is also a favorite of mine.

I've also seen Wicked, Billy Elliot and Jersey Boys ....all good.
Im not sure if Chicago and The Producers
are still running, but they're worth seeing, too

Twyla Tharp's Movin Out was excellent.
I had tickets to her more recent production of Come FLy Away last week but could not make it. I heard it was good, also.

Sounds wonderful, EL. I always feel like I'm about two feet off the ground for a few days after seeing a great show.

I grew up near NYC and we used to go to the theater all the time. We'd take the train into the city and buy same-day discount tickets to whatever was available. I saw Oliver when I was a kid with Davy Jones as the Artful Dodger. Now that was a long time ago. Also saw Sandy Duncan do Peter Pan, Frank Langella do Dracula (not a musical, but wonderful with Edward Gorey sets), and lots of other shows. I miss that. My favorite ever was an O'Neil drama I saw with Jason Robards and Colleen Dewhurst who were both amazing. I'd also love to see Les Miz but with the tenth anniversary concert cast, especially Colm Wilkerson. What a voice!

My daughter is going to see Spiderman: Turn off the Dark next month. Costs $125 a pop for not great tickets. I'll stick with dvds for now.

I always feel like such a grump saying it, but I've never liked musicals. Not even when I was a kid. I don't even like movie musicals that much (although there are a few exceptions to that). I love going to the ballet and opera, though.

I've only seen the original Spamalot. I must be missing the gene that likes musicals.

Wicked just made its way through Michigan. It was wonderful. I did however download the original cast recording of My Fair Lady.

I have become accustomed to her face.:rose:

Hey, EL, it's been a long time. Saw your lovely thread and just had to pop in and say, "hi". I hope all is well. :rose:

Our House.

I got to see the production with Suggs.

Ha, cool!

Well, can't say I know the details and they mentioned a few other actor types but I don't remember them. Sounds like it might be quite interesting all told. :)

Bullseye was on stage about 3 times and he got the biggest clap of the night. *LOL*

In my opinion it is too. :)

I quite fancy Wicked, will have to try that out sometime. :)

I'm going with my sister next Friday too to watch something called All New People it's directed by (and stars) Zach Braff (of Scrubs fame) and isn't a musical but sounds pretty interesting. My sister just wants to go to drool I think.

And prices? Well, not going to talk about that. Last night's show was expensive but I reckon well worth every penny.

Oliver was actually a pretty great movie.

Yes, indeed! :)

Well, we're all wired differently. I understand that being a Brit who doesn't drink tea. *LOL*

My hubs would love to see Spamalot.

Yes, I definitely fancy seeing Wicked. :)
