Just watched it. I don't know why it gets the hate from some people, it's pretty fucking good. And my goodness is Ryan Gosling a handsome young man.

Watched 'Drive' on Pay-Per-View last night and rather liked it. But I wanted to know more about his character since he was a man of few words and they didn't offer any background story. Had he been in prison, the military, did his father kill his mother with a gun for him to not use them (despite a shotgun as defense)?... I mean, so many questions swirled but I kinda got turned on by his mystery and intrigue. Well, not so much with the head-bashing-in scene.

Was pleased to see Carey Mulligan in it. She actually deserved Best Actress for her role in 'An Education' instead of Sandy Bullock in 'Blindside' - shrug. Mulligan is also fucking phenomenal in 'Shame' - girl has chops and shares b-days with my grandmother and Killswitch, hah.

Loveloveloved the sun-shadow killing scene at the end. Ryan's performance made me hustle a free view of 'Blue Valentine' with Michelle Williams (2010) before bed. He was so awesome in that, I mean, truly brilliant. I just wish he wasn't Canadian.

Also, who knew Ryan Gosling is mostly bald? Figured so in the elevator scene in 'Drive' but he really let it out in 'Blue Valentine'...

Totally over rated movie.

I found it painful to watch.

And was Gosling getting paid by the close-up? FFS.

The profile close-ups in cars kept reminding me of my much older brother. I don't mean that in an incestuous way but girlfriends/teammates used to ask my bro for autographs back in the day because he was way hotter than Gosling, swear on my Mother's soul. But his nose was once broken while playing basketball so he has that same little crook.

What I found painful was the lack of backstory to his character. Then I stopped bitching and sure enough, the film progressed finely and it didn't really matter.

I've heard a lot of good things about this one. It's in my DVD queue, and it has a 5-star recommendation for me from Netflix. Maybe I should bump it up toward the top.

Hope you don't mind if I bumped this. What with that thread about you being a man hitting the 1st page in here over and over and IslandMan being the only one to post in it, I thought why the fuck not.

Quite enjoyed it. Just watched tonight. The blonde is cute as shit (same chick that was redhead in ws money never sleeps)

One of my fave movies...great soundtrack

I have a couple of the songs on my Ipod including Kavinski's NightCall:heart:

I didn't know anyone posted in it until now. I made this thread late at night and left it to die.

Apart from two rather short scenes it is NOT a car chase movie. I think that's why some people don't like it. It is however an awesome low key crime drama with a very touching love story.

Some quite good individual performances. Albert Brooks should play a bad guy for the rest of his life.

Very mediocre movie, though. If you think it's "phenomenal", do yourself a favor, learn about film, and refine your taste. Yeah, you'll end up dismissing many movies, but you'll enjoy the good ones a lot more.

Or don't. No skin off my Kurosawa.

Kurosawa has been dead for a long time. As great as he was, should we stop the time and start glorifying the dead? I don't think so.

I was hopin this movie would be good. It had a few good parts, but overall, blech. I'd give it 2 out of 5 stars. It wasn't so much the acting or the actors... the story just sucked.

I thought Al Brooks helped make the movie and I have a crush on Ryan Gosling.

Just because I ENJOY a movie does not mean I consider it high quality...White Chicks makes me laugh my ass off but I would not proclaim it to be fine cinimatic art:rolleyes:

One thing to add....a lot of bitching abt Brooks getting snubbed for best supporting actor
Why?
Total, he may have been onscreen 10m.
Good character but wtf?

He's got deep connections in Hollywood. Those are the folks making the most noise.

Hear ya. Yet he was a bit player. Even on grantland, a sports blog, thbey were cumming on themselves over it. Be like nominating Hendricks for best supportin actress. Anyone can play a mumbling old killer for 10 m.
(Not that I dint love the mov ie. Just watched it and everyone overhyped his performance. Gosling and Mulligan (sp?) D8id much better jobs though all were solid inc perlman)
