What are you superstitious about/make wishes on?

Ever knock on wood?
Throw salt over your shoulder?
Avoid walking under ladders?
Get concerned when you break a mirror?
Throw coins into fountains and wells?
Make a wish on a "shooting star," or on your birthday cake right before trying to blow out all the candles in one puff?

I've done all of the above at least once each, and even though my Mom died a few years back I still avoid stepping on cracks in the sidewalk ("step on a crack, you break your mother's back!") when I'm walking on pavement with regularly spaced breaks.

Who hasn't? But I don't believe they really have any effect. Well, except the ladder, that's just common sense - if it falls, you're going to get hurt!

I've walked under ladders 13 times.

I had a mirror on my wall that I hit with a hammer 13 times.

I had shit happen before I did these things.

I had shit happen after I did these things.

Wishes are another way of not accepting reality.

Of course I'm also a miserable bastard.

I made a wish on a flap holster once.

Then the Irish insulted my Model A and I was forced to kill them all.

*spins the horned toad and makes him very dizzy*

*looks to see if the buzzards are circling yet*

Knock on Wood: No, this superstition appears to be a holdover from the days of druids and to me is ridiculous.

Salt over shoulder? Nope, I don't believe evil spirits are following me around.

Mirrors? I don't believe in the "soul", but I do understand reflection.

Walking under ladders? Yep, people do drop things and this one is basic OSHA.

Coins? Nope, money is money and since I've done charity work, I know the coins are just scooped up and deposited in a bank account.

Wish on Shooting Stars? Nope. Rocks falling from the sky have no power unless they land on you.

Friday the 13th and 13 in general? Nope, Judas's treachery was foretold so no bad luck is involved.

Actually I drove right by there a while back and there is no sign of it, must have torn it down, or burned it down.

No more silk fair, no more saki, just a fistful of yen...

;) ;)

kbate, go away. Ellie gave us this thread. Did you not get the buddy-list PM?

Sucks to be you in Seattle, Lago, Jericho, wherever...
