Anyone have a good home remedy? Two dogs coughing and no one in the house is sleeping.

No remedy except to allow it to run its course. Anti-biotics can help but most kennel cough appears to be viral rather than microbial so once spread to each dog the disease must run its course.

If the pets are eating and are alert, remove their collars to help them breathe and let them be. If they have fever or stop eating or become listless, see your vet.

Killjoy!

Would not seeing their vet be a better move? :D

Give them a Ricola?

I laughed!

I believe "see your vet" was mentioned in my post. I rarely recommend taking animals to professionals as the first course of action.

I believe at least one person who has experienced kennel cough should respond with the bad news of no sleep until it runs its course.

Kennel cough means no sleep until its run it's course.

It's true. I actually made the dog sit with me in the bathroom for steam therapy when she had it. Not sure if it helped but she wasn't so bad at night.

It really does suck, dogs being sick are worse than my kids, at least they can tell me what hurts. :(

put

put them at the end of the garden and close all windows. Wont help the dogs but you might sleep :D

I think you can give asprin in warm milk to dogs may help but check first. Dose depends on weight of dog.

*chuckle*

You said "your" vet. I made a bitch joke...

:p

Same as people, it has to run it's course. However you can try the same "home remedies" for the pup as you do/did for yourself/kids.

Humid environment aka steam.

Honey added into some warm water will help soothe a dry hacking cough in the early and final stages.

And of course if you have the available resources, a small dose of sleepy-time meds will help the dog relax, and cease the majority of the noise so the whole house can sleep. A very small dose of Banamine or Ace would work.

But first and foremost, make sure you've at least had a consult with the vet first.

How do you know it's kennel cough without a blood test? My dog was coughing and it was a bladder infection, treatable with antibiotics.
