You tree huggers would love to get the military involved so you can hunt down and kill illegal loggers in the name of national security, wouldn't ya?

Would you put loggers in Gitmo, detained indefinitely?

If that idea makes you sprout your own kind of wood, you'd love Nicaragua. Their neo-Marxist dictator for life has written into the constitution that severely impacting the environment is a national security threat, and has an army Eco-battalion hunting down clear-cutters. Never mind that it was the Sandinistas themselves who clear cut the country in the '80s .

How is it any different from the US sending in the troops to protect their oil fields?

Bwahahahahahahaha!

Quoted for hilarity.

Why is it funny? It's a real army unit with real guns. Controlled by a leftist wacko. It's a liberal's dream come true.

I guess you believe that all police are leftist dreams and all crime is actually free enterprise.

You didn't read the article I linked, clearly.

This is like Obama sending in Navy SEALS to conduct warrantless searches, seizures, and detention or killing of the BP et al employees for the Deepwater Horizon spill, in the name of national security.

If that seems reasonable to you, I won't waste time arguing with you.

No, it's like Obama sending in the army to control a massive criminal gang that hijacked an oil field in Texas.

Holy christ you're an idiot. Did you know that we have national guard troops guarding oil pipelines?

From your article:

That’s good news for cows, but bad news for Nicaragua. It also means that the country’s renewable energy revolution—that long-term government plan to switch the country to 50% hydroelectric power within the next five years—could dry up before it starts.

“The Nicaraguan government is trying to change the matrix of its energy supply, and to do so we need to preserve and conserve our nature reserves and forests so we can have the water we need to run what will be Central America’s largest hydroelectric plant, Tumarín,” said Army Coronel Juan Ramón Morales. “But if we don’t have forests, we won’t produce the rain we need to make this project sustainable.”

Morales added, “We can’t have a hydroelectric plant in the desert.”

Tumarín, the Brazilian-backed 253-megawatt hydro plant scheduled to come on line in 2015, will be Nicaragua’s biggest renewable energy source. But it won’t be the only one. According to the government, there are nine hydroelectric projects in the works that will produce more than 30 megawatts of power, and an additional 23 projects that will produce less than 30 megawatts.

All those hydroelectric projects, both big and small, have one thing in common: they need water to work. And water only exists when forests do.

Guarding oil pipelines from what? From acts of sabotage by terrorists. Remember them? Muslims, and Communists like Bill Ayres?

You honestly think that's equivalent to army troops seeking out clear cutting loggers? Is the environment a national security issue?

Really?

Then I was right, you libs do think this is all a good idea.

Your position seems to be that illegal logging is somehow more important than a national energy policy. Could you explain that, please?

Off2bed is done with this thread now.

Isn't this the guy who said Obama is sending the SWAT team to collect delinquent student loans?
