Does anyone still use FB? I log in regularly to keep track of friends from high school and college, view photos of my sisters' children, manage my company's account, etc. And yes, I will be bitching about the new changes. I thought the site was more enjoyable before the ridiculous "news" feed was added, and Timeline just looks silly (IMO).

I know that FB is no longer the end-all, be-all of social media, but it has its uses. Anyone else still enjoy FB? If so, how do you feel about the Timeline format?

I have un friended people who have switched to timeline as it crashes my computer..... Fuckers!

After the article I just read about how behavioral pricing models get most of their information from social media, I'm glad I never had anything to do with FB.

I've avoided the profiles of my idiot friends who switched over willingly, so I haven't noticed any technical glitches. But it doesn't take much to make my poor old laptop crash. So yay...something to look forward to!

Unless you live in a completely cash economy, there's no way of avoiding that shit these days. But you can mitigate it.

I was googling for ways to beat it. What tips do you have?

Nothing spectacular; no loyalty cards, pay as you go phone rather than contract, throw some random subjects into your Google searches, pay cash for everything, obvious stuff.

FB in general crashes mine...which is weird...I maxed this system out, to edit mass amounts of photos...I can run 4 different photo editors at a time, but click too fast on FB and BAM! Blue screened...
Thankfully, business pages don't use the timeline, at least not yet...I use FB to promote my side business, and I don't want to be crashing people out if I am trying to get them to my pages...

I still Facebook but haven't switched over to the Timeline yet.

Ironic use of the verb there:

Google said Tuesday it will require users to allow the company to follow their activities across e-mail, search, YouTube and other services, a radical shift in strategy that is expected to invite greater scrutiny of its privacy and competitive practices.

The information will enable Google to develop a fuller picture of how people use its growing empire of Web sites. Consumers will have no choice but to accept the changes.

The policy will take effect March 1 and will also impact Android mobile phone users, who are required to log in to Google accounts when they activate their phones.

The timeline doesn't bother me. I keep mine on the homepage instead of my profile page most of the time, anyway, so I don't even notice it. *shrug*

Frick. Big Brother is everywhere!

Which is why I set up a dummy account when I got my G1 and haven't opened it since.

Facebook reminds me of AOL back in the day. People who thought it was hot shit and was not the only game in town and mindlessly using it like sheep.

You can delete your Facebook account. I did. I thought it wouldn't stick, but it did. Once going through the process on Facebook, DO NOT log in for two weeks, logging in reactivates the account.

I tried to figure out how to switch to Timeline, or how to do anything at all with my Facebook layout. Gave up.

Timeline?

You mean stuff you post on the internet might stick around for a long time and anyone might see it?

Fuck, that's crazy.

Since facebook is now passe, what took its place?

I know, right? It's what I get for thinking my marriage would last forever. Fucking tagged reception photos!

Using the word "enjoy" may be a little stretch. I got on there because a couple of my kids and my son-in law use it regularly and it is a way of keeping in touch. I have a couple of friends I met on a message board who provide most of my actual interest, the rest is somewhat bland and trivial. Most ho-hum really but I log in to go through whatever seems to be the flavour of the day.

The Time line thing is of little concern as I am careful about what I post and have always acted as if whatever I posted would land on the front page. I find Face book a pushy, evasive and generally user unfriendly site and would not be there except out of expedience. If any of Face book's sheep get burned in Timeline they get what they deserve. I think it is an imagined monopoly that thinks it can take any liberty with its users.

"Free, and always will be" Sure-unless you factor in the aggravation and anxiety.

use firefox instead of IE to prevent crashing

I only use Firefox at home...have for a few years...but now that you say that, I may load Chrome on the home machine and see if that makes a difference...I use Chrome at work without ever having a crash...but I am not on FB on the work computer very often...

I swear by Chrome. I really do think it's faster.
