Their faces look like Piglet's, from Winnie The Pooh. My ex and I were hiking in someplace in Florida...Payne's Prairie, maybe? And we saw them for the first time. We were calling them "steel pigs." They hop away on all fours and dive into tunnels when you get too close.

I love them. Another time in FL, at night, I was walking from the classroom to my bunk and one walked right up to me. He got within like four feet and I said, "Hey, fool, I'm a big dangerous predator!" and he dove under some stairs. So I patted his back, just to see what they feel like. Sort of like bone covered in leather with short bristly hair.

Armadillos are pretty harmless, unless provoked. I think they are kind of neat looking. It is the leathery shell cover that give some people the woolies.

The only reason to fear one is their reputation for carrying leprosy.

Possums have absolutely perfect timing!
They race out from the long grass on the edge of the road at PRECISELY the second my left front tyre reaches the same spot!
