Making anonymous comments to storys here at lit shouldn't be allowed!

The morons who are doing that should really be ashamed!!!

SweetMaj, the more publicly upset you become, the more the trolls will attack. Like one of J.K. Rowling's mythical creatures, they feed on emotion and disappear when you laugh at them or better still, ignore them.

I don't like when they tell me what my non-humans can and can't do. give me a name so I can talk to you and learn something.

It's often no fun to get anonymous comments, but at least for now it's all or nothing. It really isn't worth getting upset about. I'm not saying I don't, but -- why should you (or I) get upset at a comment from someone we don't even know?

Also, consider -- if they are only brave enough to post a snotty comment without a name, then ... they're a wuss.

am I the only one that gets mad when someone completely cuts down my story but when you look at their profile they haven't writen any thing? my thouht always is "If your so cleaver why don't you write?"

you could also just delete the offending comments.

How does a name make any difference? If you get a comment from somebody like "SweetMaj", "Estragon", "Masked Maiden", "Penn Lady" or "Safe Bet"??? It's not like all of a sudden you know who we are. EVERYBODY on Lit uses screen names.

it matters because if I leave a comment as Masked_maiden you can contact me and we can talk. Thats how my editing got better. if you leave no name and a mean coment or an odd comment there is no way of defending yourself.

Get over it, in fact learn to roll with it and have fun with it. These are frustrated losers who get their rocks off trying to make you mad.

If you got some good comments and more importantly you're okay with what you wrote then who cares.

Honestly, sometimes the more heated someone gets the more I wonder if they think there might be credence to the comment.

I've never written anything on Lit, but I DO know the correct words should be "clever" and "you're"! Just say'in! :D

BTW, my bet is that if only writers were allowed to vote and comment, you'd get NOTHING but 1 bombs and "you suck" comments (most likely anonymously!!! ;) )

yes clever is what I ment I did say I need editors to do my writing. What I ment is when they tell me I can't have a charater do this or that or how they would have done it this way. If you would have done it that way go write that story (just don't use my charaters). I actualy like alot of the comments I get and I respond to any with a name. it has helped add to my stories.

Sweet -

If you go into your profile/options you will find an option to disallow anonymous comments. Use it.

I had the same sort of experience you had at first. Occasional anonymous comments could be insightful or worthwhile, but they were by far the exception rather than the rule. There's no reason to be bothered by the mostly moronic nonsense you'll find posted to your stories under the name anonymous, so just do away with them.

I was like every other new writer here and took offence to troll comments and zero bombs. The best advice I got was to let it go and get a thicker skin to it. Looking at it from a different perspective, it gives you a better sense of who your stories appeal to and who reads them. It came to light later, that they read the whole story, hate it or not, it went cover to cover. That's better than page one and back page because it sucked.

Save Anonymous!

An excellent reason to leave a comment as "anonymous." There have been times when I've posted my name with constructive criticism, and I mean mild constructive, nothing like "you suck" or "this made me sick," and gotten e-mails from the writer attacking me for what I said. And I mean lots of continuous e-mails.

Commentary is just that--what people think--it isn't meant to be a writer's group where those that give you their opinions are then obliged to help you fix what's wrong or what they didn't like. If someone leaves a comment, and it seems valid--whether they name themselves or not--then it's up to you and an editor to decide what to do about it. The commentator has no obligation to discuss it further with you. And that's why anonymous exists. To make sure you know if they want to discuss it further with you or not. And if they don't, then you need to respect that, not take away that option, which, I promise you, will erase half if not all the comments you get, positive as well as negative. The option of anonymity must exist else some people feel they can't be honest.

Cyberbullying does exist on the internet, and some people are paranoid about their privacy. And in many cases, rightly so.

Of course, many abuse the option by using it to leave nasty comments, like tagging a building, but that's what your delete button is for. If the comment is not praise or constructive, then get rid of it. Whether there is a name attached or not is immaterial.
