Last time I had an operation, I was told by the surgeon that I had the usual stuff inside - heart, lungs, liver, etc.
Pretty sure he never mentioned a soul, so I'm assuming I don't have one.

What exactly is a "soul" anyway?

I have not met a single person who can answer this question.

It's the human equivilancy of an AT field. God- haven't you ever watched Eva?

I seriously doubt you've never met anyone who could answer that question- there are volumes of books on the subject. Most scholars agree that the soul is the electromagnetic field produced by the brain in humans and the central or peripherial nervous system in all living things. This field interacts with the physical brain to produce synaptic charges that control pretty much everything. The physical feeds the field and the field feeds the physical. That's why I'm of the opinion that after the physical stops and there's nothing to feed the field, the field stops to.

Others do not share this opinion, and believe that the soul somehow lives on- goes on to another plane of existence, or merges with the rest of the energy in the universe, or any other number of things. I'm no theologian and figure that I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

You can debate what a soul does, but not what a soul is. Hell, it's the reason electroshock therapy works. It's the reason that you do brain surgery with an electron beam instead of a hematite blade. Not being religious is no reason to act like you can't read a textbook.
