Let me preface this by saying I love woman. I love everything about them, from the strength, to their insecurities, to the way they smell and feel. But there is one widely accepted “fact” out there that I am not sure I buy; Women have a higher tolerance for pain than me.

First, let me present just a few examples of why I question this popular belief. I have seen a girl sprain her ankle and have to get carried off the court, were as most men would have just walked it off. I have seen a girl fall off her mountain bike going down the trail and get a few bumps and scratches. This ended up ruining the whole day were I believe almost any man would have jumped right back on the bike and down the hill. I have seen girls get tattoos and guys get tattoos. Guess who makes a bigger deal out of it? I know when I get sick or my stomach hurts I do not bitch half as much as some of the woman I have been with.

Despite all that women will point out all the painful things they do to make themselves feel beautiful, that we men could never handle; like high heels, eyebrow plucking, waxing, and all those other things I greatly appreciate. I will admit I have plucked the occasion stray eyebrow and it does hurt, and if anyone ever tried to get hot wax near my balls there would be fists. But none of this is any more painful than that 3rd set of preacher curls, or pushing yourself for that last set of dead lifts. We go through our pain for you as well.

But the real reason this belief is widely accepted comes down to one thing; childbirth. Ok. I have no doubt pushing a 7-9 pound infant with the head the size of a grapefruit out of your vagina is painful. I am glad it was Eve that got us kicked out of the garden thus dooming you to this chore ;) But how do I know this is any more or less painful than getting kicked in the balls? I do not know and cannot know. For all I know if it were guys having babies, it would be an outpatient procedure with no pain meds needed. Hell, I have seen videos of women putting things larger than babies up the vaginas for pleasure!

To sum this up; I do not think woman have a higher tolerance for pain than men and in the end it comes down to the individual regardless of sex.
(Notice how my final position makes everyone equal, and to argues against it would be sexist)

Shaddup VatAss.

(I don't think women have a higher tolerance for pain then men do. I think men can tolerate MORE intense pain then women can. I do think women can tolerate considerable pain for a much, much longer time than men are able to.)

Whether its "true" or not I don't know .. however its a higher tolerance, no one ever said a woman wouldn't cry and be upset, just that, if you strapped a man and a woman each into a chair and, i don't know did some chinese water torture on them that the men would crack before the women.

I stupidly attempted this argument with my better half and almost cost my self sex. Luckily, I was smart enough to reverse positions in time..... :D

dude whether its true or not doesn't make a difference. they need to think its true and its not a point worthy of an argument. i can't believe you tried to argue this once with your wife, got shot down and then tried to bring it here to argue it with a hundred other women. are you a fucking masochist??

*backing slowly out of the thread*

i'd rather suffer broken bones (which i have) than give birth. seen it, was there for both my kids. i thought, fucking OUCH!

I never looked below the sheet. Hell I never even looked at the sheet. Now that I know even greater details of a C section I am glad I did not...

Maybe just a littel. But the girls here do not hold the power of the pussy .......

I claim an extremely low pain threshold. I'm a crying wimp and don't care what people think...

you utter nancy!

i squeezed out 10 pounds 12 ounces of baby, drug free.
i'm totally badass.

Oh god you are! and you are tiny.

My son was a lot smaller and I have generous child bearing hips :) mind you I didn't mind it all. When he was born I said I could do it for a living.

i was grinning & laughing throughout.
it was a piece of cake.
Someone offered free drugs and you did not take them. You may be a badass but I now question your judgment! ;)
i had electrodes. happy, happy zappy.
i do not like drugs.

Maybe it comes down to the individual. Or maybe females are trained to seek sympathy even when the injury is a papercut. I handle pain fairly well. I rarely cry from pain. I toughen up when I injure myself in public and only complain to my husband. I think most females exaggerate their injuries for the attention, because society allows them to act vulnerable, even encourages it.

My father can handle near excruciating pain and keep a straight face. I've seen other men with lesser injuries cry.

I've experienced the opposite- especially with tats. But there's a lot of individual variation. I know that karmaloff-smith and other evolutionary psychologists and neurologists have studied the phenomena and found the women have a higher tolerance for pain, but they are more likely to seek help (especially medical help) for injuries or pain then their male counterparts. Shockingly, this is one of the few differences that occurs cross-culturally in both collectivist and individualist cultures, and among family members (a brother and sister will differ- usually, siblings are immune to gender differences, as family likeness overrides them). So women can tolerate more pain without passing out or releasing natural endorphins, but they feel it as intensely as men and are more likely to try and find a solution.

Whether that's better or worse I can't say. I don't really care. It's a pointless conversation. There's a lot of individual variation, and it's not something that can really be applied, even if it's definitively answered. Therefore, I can't make myself give a shit. I am willing to volunteer my services if anyone's interested in seeing how much pain I can take. ;)

alrighty..... when was the last time you got kicked continously in the balls for 36 hours?

in closing.. shut the fuck up

I was gonna say that. I'm a massochist and I've never had a desire to go through days of non-stop pain. I don't think I could even watch someone I loved go through it- I mean, I would, but it would suck.

Pain tolerance is relative. I giggled through my 40-minute tattoo. Does that mean I win? (No.)
