Why can't the site put new stories into categories? Not sure how other readers feel, but I hate looking through all the stories and trying to find what I like. It should not be that hard to do.

They are loosely grouped that way but not completely. Certain cats go to the front and some go to the back pages of the list.

ETA: The Valentines Day Contest started this morning so that might not apply for a few days as contest stories are posted to the front.

I'm not sure what you mean. New stories are posted on the "New Stories" page, with their authors and categories on the line under the title. There are also the category hub pages and you can search tags and text of stories. Do you mean you wish new stories would show up at the top of the list in the separate categories? That might be nice, but then it might be a mess looking around.

As PennLady notes, the categories are given in the New story listings. Surely you can scan through sixty entries with an eye to the categories without difficulty--and, as she noted, the category page lists the new stories in just that category.

A "but" addendum: I do wish the website would put the categories on the contest story special listing page.

On any general grouping by category, I haven't observe that to be happening. What seems to happen--and I think it's right--is that the editor is putting ones she's identified as the better of the lot going through her hands to the top of the New list. Commercially, that would make a lot of sense.

Based on the "editors" opinion which might not be that of the average reader. The categories and readers tastes vary to much for a person to guess which are the better ones.

Honestly, I think its based on favoritism, not necessarily by "liking or disliking" a particular author, but I would imagine a "TX Rad" or DG story might get the nod over someone who is not so well known.

This site is a business and as such, the stories are posted the way the owners think they will be best received. NC/Rel, Incest, and a couple more are always in the back. Poorer writing is at the back. If we went by the green E for preference then Gay Male would be at the head of the list as that is where most of the E's are or at least that is my observation.

And yes, better known names are at the front sometimes. Contest stories are posted in the order they are vetted if memory serves.

I really don;t know where Nc/rel stands in popularity (t can't be far enough back for my tastes) but incest is a big draw whether they would like to admit it or not.

I think the three most viewed/voted winter contest entries were all incest. Odd they wouldn't give it a higher "billing"

I have no issue if they go with the bigger names first. Everyone had to start somewhere and there are people here who have paid there dues.

I'm not sure how the bot determines "poor writing" but I'll take your word for it.

And I agree with that green e estimation, although others doth protest loudly thinking it's their own skill not a love of that category by the powers that be.

Couldn't be talking about me, because five of my green Es are outside of the GM category (even though there are those swiftboaters who like to claim I don't write anything but GM). :D So, what are your green Es in, Lovecraft?

I think TxRad has it right. That's pretty much my observation from seeing the list more than once a week when my stories pop up.

Commercially, I'd put the Incest stories forward too--but I guess the editor just doesn't have the stomach for that. (Although I think it's more a cake/eat it too situation. They want the audience Incest brings but they don't want to draw scrutiny to the website.)

Popularity doesn't necessarily move incest up the ladder. it is here only because of the free speech aspect of the site. I think if it wasn't for free speech, incest would not be on this site among a few of categories.

I don't think "the Bot" reads that many new stories or stories by unknown writers. I think the bot is a quick scan preliminary check. There are several ways to determine readability with scans that i can think of off hand so maybe the bot is more sophisticated than I give it credit for. Only Manu knows for sure.

:D Sorry but that last paragraph does not compute. The editor might have a predigest toward a certain category or categories but the writing still has to be good, very good in most cases. And the green E is not just given for content. It is given for writing excellence.

I don't have one but I have researched what it takes to get one.

I don't see any green E's. Maybe they are hiding behind the 61 red H's I have out of 62 stories.

I also write in categories that have high squick factors. Alas I shall never see one. If I do however, get one I will send it your way. I'm the type that would be upset if I got one.

Would like a blue W someday, but then again so would you wouldn't you?

Incest is allowed here, because as you recently pointed out, Lit is a business.

Incest is the single largest draw and they would lose a lot of readership if they dropped it.

My first two stories here were a BDSM and a fetish. I got a couple thousand views each and figured okay whatever. I put up an incest story and did a double take when it hit 100k views in day one.

If incest tanked, they might try to go all moral and ditch it, but they are not going to kick off a money maker no matter what the squick factor.

And as for a certain person's green E's I will just say Teachers pet and leave that be. If his work was that excellent his average score would not be hanging around low fours.

With as many toes as he has stepped on over the years, I'm surprised they are that high. I've often wondered what his scores are like on the other names he writes under here. Probably much better.

I have three trolls that vote five to ten alts so I know where he is coming from. If it wasn't for sweeps, most of mine would be close to four also.

My female alt has scores much higher than mine by a long shot.

So scores are a crap shoot and always have been if you post to the threads.

Yeah, your story list (categories, ratings, number of stories) is pretty much identical to Scouries's, Lovecraft. :D

I don't see any green Es in your list either.

But gee, (repeating something you're trying to ignore) since you continually say I only write GM, I sure wonder where my five green Es for a wide variety of the non GM genre stories came from. :D

Some of my 528 stories are pretty "squicky" too. I've even got Incest in a lot of them. And you can't get much squickery than sounding and DP. I don't have any "wanna fuck and torture my sister" stories, though. Personally, I think that's sick. In incest, I can't get much further than step relationships and unrealized family linkages.

And, sure, I'd love to get a W or two someday. It's not going to happen with the trolling going on that just doesn't track with my placement on the all-genre favoritist author list and on a couple of the genre favorite author lists. I'm not going to slit my wrists over not getting a W, though. My validation comes from somewhere other than the Lit. lists. If it was only here, you'd win. I'd decide that the trolls weren't worth the effort and not post my stories here. But your campaign doesn't affect me in reality, so I'll stick right here.

Where are your green Es and your placement on the overall list and the Incest page list?

I only ask this because of your constant jealousy-based swiftboating of me. If you didn't do that, I woudn't bring up the comparison at all--because I don't see posting stories here as a competition with anyone else. Obviously you do--you're just not all that good at it.

Oh, incidentally, your claim on another thread that Amazon is discounting my books (and not others)--that's a big fat lie (just one of your whole litany of swiftboating lies). None of my Kindle or print books offered by Amazon are discounted. (And although Amazon does occasionally conduct discounting sales--across the whole collection--they aren't doing it presently.) The only reference point that I could see where you could have gotten that is that where there's both an e-book and a paperback on offer, Amazon has a notation of how much a buyer can save by buying the Kindle version rather than the paperback version.

So, you are one of two things on that: Either you are a malicious liar (what a surprise!) or you are dumb as a rock in reading Amazon listings. (I vote for both :D)

I wonder if the time of day you post could have anything to do with placement on the New List, along with the other things mentioned. Maybe all that ties in together?

Seems like the earlier in the day I submit a story the higher up the list I am. But then I tend not to check the New List, lol, I'm usually checking the GM portal instead.

Not to my knowledge. I've checked for that, thinking I'd just submit earlier to get higher on the list (undoubtedly placing higher is better than not), but that hasn't happened. I've sometimes posted late, not seen the listing on the New list on the day I expected, and come back to find the story had been placed later, near the top. The stories being folded in late are not being added to the bottom. There obviously is some formula working on where they are placed.

(From what I've seen, your stories usually go in the top half at least.)

I also point out that there's another easy way to go. You can go to the story search page and select what categories you like, not put keywords and simply have it sort by date. This will give you the newest stories in the categories you enjoy.
