I Am The Greatest!

Ali was, and still is, the best. Not only in the ring, but a prime example of how every athletic should aspire to be like as a human being. He had a dream he followed and never gave up. I do not give a fuck what anyone else says. So many obstacles he either overcame or learned to live with.

In '96, as I was watching him light the torch, I cried for him.

The very same can be said of Joe Lewis. Hell, he crushed the Nazis and embarrassed Hitler, he also probably did more than Ali for Civil Rights.

That being said...Who would win in the ring? I will just say it would be a great fight and put them on equal ground.

You fools dont even recall Joe Frazier. He knocked Ali out.

Use to watch on an old black and white TV, prime time, on a Saturday night.
Joe Frasier, George Foreman, Ken Norton, Larry Holmes, a time when being heavyweight champion of the world meant something. But, yeah Ali was the greatest all rounder.

From the same time Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns, great fighters, great spectacle.

Tbh I don’t even know who is champion at the moment, klitschko I think.

Woof!

Yeah it’s the saddest of things watching a truly great man wither before your eyes.

Woof!

I agree. But in my lifetime, I go with Ali.

Going back in time, and looking at a match between the two? - Muhammad Ali would win this by a one sided decision. He was too fast and slick for the great Joe Louis. Louis simply could not catch him.

No. You got it all wrong.

I remember the fight, the bright green trunks, Foreman, all of the big fights. Hell, they were free on TV then.
Not disputing Foreman, but yeah. And it was all on free TV back then.
And who the fuck was Foreman's PR then?(not bothering to google)

No. He knocked Ali down. He never knocked Ali out. The closest anyone came was Larry Holmes who won a TKO when Ali could not answer the bell for the 11th round.
The Colonel has it all right! 1980. Even I doubted the great Ali then. Cassius Clay had people like me screaming for him to win.

I seem to remember that it was controversial; Ali wanted to continue but his corner threw in the towel, rightly as he was losing badly and could’ve suffered injury. Mind you he was 38 at that point.

Woof!

it may not matter to you, but its spelled Joe Louis

and there has been many amazing fighters, from Dempsey to Johnson to Leonard and so on, but to me, its a tight race between Sugar Ray Robinson or Ali on who was the greatest. But the one thing that is telling is that while Ali sold himself as the greatest, he did admit that he thought Sugar Ray was the best boxer ever

That fight should have never happened.

Yes Ali did at that, with Sugar Ray.

It is widely believed that the Brown Bomber, (Joe Louis to those with no clue), was Marciano's idol. And that Rocky made a few anonymous contributions to Louis's retirement in later years. The Bomber was broke. His 'sponsors' abandoned him financially. Louis also broke racial barriers in the PGA.

Ali was the best heavyweight I've ever seen. In his prime he could fight 15 rounds on his toes and he could take a hell of a punch.

In the end, Joe Louis was working for American Gangster, Frank Lucas.
