My first thread! No more lurking!

But, anyways, my question/rant is this:
I've had my locs for almost 3 years now and suddenly I've been getting a lot of comments like "you shouldn't have those, its dirty" and "they're ugly". I happen to like my locs. I take good care of them and (I think) they look pretty damn good.
What's your opinion. Why?

Thanks!

I would need to see a picture to be able to make a yes or no judgement.

I like locs. I have never sported a set myself so I do not know how much maintenance if involved.

It's your hair, I'm not sure why you need the approval of other people to be secure in your choice of hairstyles.

Fuck 'em I say.

Depends on what kind of job you want or job you have. If conservative, you need to lose the dreads. If you're a whacky musician or something like that, go right ahead and be "different."

My opinion is that you are entitled to your opinion, and so are the people with the negative comments.

You can choose to look like Oscar the Grouch if you really want to, but you can't expect other people to like it.

Or expect them to hire you.

Dredlocks are fugly and tell the world you are a criminal or that you want everyone to think you're a criminal.

i put the poodle in dreads a few times.
it was a lot of upkeep, parting them every day to make sure they don't clump. they couldn't take shampoo but river water brought them up a treat.
i hope you jump in the river once a week.

Oh good, you're still an idiot.

It's comforting to know there's some consistency in life.

Some look good with them, others look a dirty mess. We need to see a picture of yours.

A Puli has natural dreads...

my personal experience with dreads is that over time they are impossible to get clean. if they are impossible to get clean then they will inevitably, over time, smell terrible. true story.

i agree with this. also, unless you have them for a religious reason i don't see anything wrong with chopping the bastards off and trying something else. you might like it. if you don't hair grows back.

They can look good
but can be hard to keep clean

Yep a pic is needed.

There's a guy that walks around my home town who's bald apart from one long dread at the back of his neck. It reaches down to his knees, I think he may tie bits on. He looks like a right nob.

ps, It's "dreadlocks" btw.

Eta: Looks a bit like this before the repair. http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=O6TpkYuZx7Q&feature=endscreen
Nice work SaBrina.

I'm wondering if we live in the same place...

Dreads only smell if you don't wash them. Once they have become established, you can wash them as much as you want. Stinky dreads are horrible

You need a depends box.. because for me it depends on the person.. and how well groomed they are..
