Eclipse was on the move again today. She did a quick run down to St. Martin from Anguilla. After sitting off Gustavia for what seemed like a month, she's gotten almost peripatetic.

When I first saw her, I thought she might be a barquentine but seeing her abeam made me realize that she was a full-rigged ship.

She's currently under sail abaft Baie de Fort de France approaching Rocher Diamante just off Martinique.

What about the one that just crashed? I worked on a cruise ship before. This Capt must be a real jerk. He abandoned ship before the passengers did. Hang him.

This appears to be one of those faux "ships" tripped out to fool a bunch of New Jersey schoolteachers into thinking they're aboard an actual square-rigger. The sails are for show; the actual propulsion is provided by good ol' Cummins or Cat. The masts are very clever; they conceal smokestacks.

I can't help but notice that Marine Traffic's coverage is somewhat spotty; there are large areas of the Caribees and the oceans where vessels simply "disappear" as they make trans-oceanic or inter-island passages. Serene, for example, has vanished. Eclipse was "out of range" for most of her passage from St. Martin to Bridgetown.
