JAKARTA, Indonesia – DEVELOPING: A strong earthquake has struck waters of western Indonesia, prompting local officials to issue a tsunami warning.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 7.3 and struck 260 miles off the coast of Aceh province. The USGS Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said a destructive, widespread tsunami is not expected, although there is a "very small possibility" of a local tsunami.

Has anyone seen an update on the rebuilding process in Japan after their Tsunami?

In December, Mr. Noda announced that technicians had regained control of reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, declaring an end to the world’s worst nuclear disaster since Chernoybl.

The government will now focus on removing the fuel stored at the site, opening up the ravaged reactors themselves and eventually dismantling the plant, a process that is expected to take at least four decades, Mr. Noda said.

But for many of the people of Fukushima, the crisis is far from over. More than 160,000 people remain displaced, and even as the government lifts evacuation orders for some communities, many are refusing to return home.

Many experts still doubt the government’s assertion that the plant is now in a stable state — the equivalent of a “cold shutdown’' — and worry that officials are declaring victory only to quell public anger over the accident.

Going slow it seems. Toyota and Honda have moved some of their auto related manufacturing to the USA.

I know they know what they are talking about; but reading that line alone made me laugh. Naaahhhh, no problem considering 150,000 people died in total in 2004 from the tsunami in Banda Aceh.
