Why is it that there are so many lingerie shops/departments in so many cities that have so much classic offerings & so few women who actually purchase/wear these??

Really? If we never bought/wore their products, then how do they continue to stay in business?

What she said with an addendum. Not all women want to wear lingerie, some because they don't like their bodies and well lingerie shows it off. Some don't because according to their religion they shouldn't need it. Honestly I don't think a woman should need it either, I mean if he doesn't want to fuck me I don't want to be with him.

That said I do own lingerie, it's nice to pull it out from time to time just because he remembers he likes to just have me. I like when he does that most of the time so when I get tired of making love and he doesn't alter it I wear the lingerie. ;)

Next time you want to make a blanket statement, get a girlfriend or ask her about it first.

I guess that's the main reason.

I frequently wear lingerie and do so mostly for multiple reasons. I personally enjoy feeling sensual and nice lingerie contributes to the sensation. As big of a reason though is that my husband also absolutely loves seeing me wearing lingerie.

Why other women may or may not wear lingerie is up to them. But i would not assume the main reason being how they "look." There are many women of all shapes, ages and sizes who own nice assortments of lingerie. At the same time, there is the similar assortment of women who own little or none.

The reasons vary as to why a particular woman wears/owns types or styles of lingerie.

That explains a lot.
I always felt that lingerie is for women of every shape and size. The only thing that matters is that she should feel comfortable and should be able to carry it off.

i love sexy lingerie - i'm wearing some now - and wishing i had another sexy woman here with me, dressed equally sexy...

I assume that you're talking about "legitimate" high-end lingere and not the "immitation whore" stuff you see in sex toy shops. Also are you talking about sexy bra-panty sets or the "tons of lace" type stuff of the 1950's? Frankly, I've never liked women in super lingere and teddy's and such. It looks sort of fake to me. I like nice simple sexy undies but not the bullcrap tiger stripes and valentine hearts and such. Personally, I prefer total nakedness to lingere. A lot of the stuff I see in Victoria Secret catalogs and such just look bogus to me.

Hmmm. Well to me it seems that Lingerie is kind of like shoes. Some women have fantastic collections of very nice genuine designer shoes that they inately understand, while some other women just have things that look nice or serve a more functional purpose. In regaurds to how I am interpreting your question; as a young lady myself, it is just something not popular in my generation. I am 25, and even my mother didn't know much about the style and use of the vintage 50's things. I had to discover it on my own, and frankly most ladies my age don't have a body like mine; honestly I know I look better in vintage fair.

You have to understand your individual style and preferance, then seek out things within that spectrum, and learn the places that sell quality items. I have a real garter belt and stockings-but they are difficult to wear in an every day sense. I much prefer the garterless stockings that have the handy silicone bands that stay up on my muscular legs! They make climbing stairs SO much easier! But I do occasionally put on the legitimate set, but only when I know they will work their way off relatively soon. Hope I answered your question! If not, specify a bit with me and I can give you a different perspective.

Because the mass produced stuff in places like Frederick's or VC is produced in a limited range of sizes and styles, and of cheap materials and scratchy lace. And I'm not a tiger stripes and hearts kind of girl. I do have a lot of lingerie and sexy stuff. I get it at Cacique (extended sizes and better manufacturing) or I hand make a lot of it, (I hated hated HATED Home Ec when I took it, I wanted another semester of woodshop, but now I'm glad it was a required course. Guys had to take it too.), or I patronize etsy and a few people who do Ren Faire gear. The truly sad thing about the limited size range at the mall shops is that I'm not that out there, size wise. I have an extra large (or double extra large, depending on the brand) bosom and a medium waist. I could buy just panties and garter sets at the mall, but why bother when I can't get a matching top?

And if you want to get political about it, because I only go to the one shop, I can honestly say, 90 percent of my pretty undies are Made in the USA.:cattail:

World wide lingerie is a 30 billion dollar business so I don't know what planet you're on.

I absolutely LOVE it! Unfortunately, most of it doesn't fit me. Being a big girl and short (also no waist to speak of) means the only stuff that fits is the stuff out of my price range.

I didn't wear it for years because of an ex (or two) that would make fun of me when I did. I got over that, and if I had the $$, I would definately have a good collection.

I have to say I prefer the more classic stuff; I'm not not into teddies or slutty looking styles. I've always felt the basics pieces, even worn under jeans and a t-shirt, can make a woman feel like a million bucks!

:)

I always thought that the wareing of lingerie was to make a women feel good about herself and feel sexy? I think if a women dosent feel that way when wareing lingerie then she just hasnt found the right lingerie shop. The other thing that also drives the lingerie shops is men . There are alot of men out there that like the feel of a nice pair of painties. I agree with alot of the panal here in saying that eather you live in a amish comm. or you are not dateing if you have found a girl who will wear lingerie. you have to make her feel good and she will want to get some to make you happy too. hang in there and you will see that there are alot out there.

What are you classifying as lingerie? Actual special occasion stuff that you specifically wear for sex and no where else, or like lace or silk underwear as opposed to just cotton?

Your obviously not dating the right women, I love the feeling of wearing sexy undies.

More so, if it allows for the occaisional "accidental" wardrobe malfunction....:D

In my opinion, lingerie and underwear is the same whether it is silk, satin lace or cotton. Of course I will wear what I consider is perceived as sexy for my man but I must feel it is also sexy on me. If it is comfortable on my body and I know it is shows off my curves and bits to their best to the person I am with, I feel sexy. Lets face it, there is pretty cotton lingerie/underwear with lace and bows that is every bit as sexy as any other material.

Well in that case I'm saying that 'johnfredrick' is wrong! I wear lingerie alot, more than half of my underwear is nice, wear to be seen type of stuff, alot of lace and sheer fabrics. And I know alot of my friends are the same. Maybe it's different age groups?

What is lingerie? For me that is a subjective call to make. For instance, I consider some of my bras and panties (mostly the everyday variety) to be underwear while others (particularly a few nicer matched sets) to be lingerie

Some things I wear to bed are just sleepwear (e.g. sleep t-shirts, pajamas) while a sheer or lacey night gown, a baby doll, a camisole shorts set are lingerie.

Most pantihose and most thigh highs are stockings only but any stockings requiring a garter, lace topped stocking or some especially nice pantihose are lingerie.

Some slips and camisole tops (particularly the everyday variety)e also underwear while others are lingerie.

What makes the difference, mood, how they make me feel, when I wear them are some factors but nothing specific. I guess lingerie is what it is in my mind.
