I know the state of the audience at Loving Wives isn't the best, but this comment still... well, it surprises me.

I mean, I get (some) the psycological aspects. You read a story that arouses you but still leaves you with a bad taste in the mouth. Maybe it hit a little too close to home, maybe it attacked your (male) pride - I get it, I've been there (though I'm proud to say, I only give stories bad votings if they simply aren't well-written). So you wanna lash out but there are really only two people at fault: you, for reading it, and the author for writing it and thus tempting you to read it.
The author is the easier target. I understand that.

But... to simply read the other comments and then vote from what they said (and they were the usual odd mix between 'awesome!' and 'you suck so bad I hope your dick rots!') - it just baffles me.

Well, /rant off. Just wanted to get it out there, you know...

DontJudgeMe.

P.S. Oh, I'm talking about one of the comments at my story 'Ganging Her'... in case you care. ;)

*Hehe!* :D Fine example, there.

Looking back, I see the mentality in 2 places:

Teenager: "You can't control me/persuade me/make me think/you're not the boss of me. I'm doing this because I can. So there. Made ya cry?"

Unfulfilled adult: "This makes me feel powerful...for a second. Maybe I'll do it again...made ya cry? Validate me, damn it! I can effect you with my nonchalance!"

All that matters is how much of your personal power you want to give them (including the private "turmoil" they sometimes like to imagine you go through, like crying yourself to sleep at night, which you can't stop in any case).

Basically....it doesn't matter. Enjoy yourself.

I'm with you on this one.

If you don't like a story, don't read it. Some of those comments were just unnecessary, especially that one. /boggle.

We all prefer our kink in our own way. Lit is a place we can all go to seek out & share with others like ourselves and not be judged.

Slough it off. I'm pretty sure you can delete those comments anyway.

No need to delete the comment, it is hilarious in it's stupidity and everyone can see that.

Speaking of stupidity, the poster doesn't realize that his vote, whether it was a 1 or a 5 will disappear on the next sweep just because he didn't read the story so the joke is on him.

You will get that type of comment, especially in Loving Wives. Loving Wives, from my experience as an author, is a tough category. I feel, it tends to be composed of a mix of readers. Some readers, I feel, tend to have an idealistic view of marriage that borders on the evangelical right image of marriage. This means you will receive negative comments if your couple is not married, there is consensual group sex, or any reference to gay / lesbian contact. Another group of readers, I find, tend to be obsessed with the idea of fetish, whereby if the story does not meet their definition of loving wives and the story contains consensual group sex then it is automatically a fetish story. A third group in loving wives, I call them the commentators. This group of readers follows the comments of others and respond in accordance with other people who comment. From my experience, I am not convinced all these people actually read the story and instead I feel they need to put in their $0.02 by making a comment. Why do this do this? Maybe they want to feel important by expressing an opinion that is based on other people's comments and their own. Finally there are readers like myself, who take a very broad interpretation of the term loving wives whereby if it is consensual and the couple is married then it is a loving wives story.

The point, I am trying to make here is the category is a tough category with those who comment coming from different perspectives. Since it is a lively category you will receive, more than usual, comments that are not helpful nor necessary. It would be great if all people who vote and comment on a story actually read it. However, we all know that this is not the case and there is no way it can be properly controlled. When I receive them all I do is either delete them or respond to them in a constructive manner. From my experience I have received similar comments and I delete them since I do not feel they are constructive. I know the comment was unnecessary and out of place. My advice would be to delete it, constructively respond to it, or ignore it.

...

Since it is called Loving Wives, and the description is simply "Tales of adventurous married women & their mates," I generally don't take that any more specific than to mean:

  1. There will be a woman involved.
  2. Said woman is married.
  3. Said woman is adventurous (could mean pretty much ANYthing).
  4. Said woman's 'mate' is involved (again, 'mate' could mean a lot of things, not just their husband).

Seems unfortunate that some wish to restrict that to a narrow definition that suits their personal expectations.

Perhaps it is foolish of me, but somehow I would have expected a site such as this one, given the broad areas of sexuality covered, would be frequented by people with broader views of the world.

As you say, though, a great many bring their own expectations and score works based on how well you met their personal fantasy, instead of an honest appraisal of how well you told the story.

C'est la vie.

Some people are just shallow lowlifes who would love nothing more than to anger you into sinking down to their primordial level.

Case in point; I had one asshole comment that my erotic ghost story sucked because I am a Latino, and am 'obviously' a wetback, and that I should go back to my country. (I am an American-Mexican, so this IS my country, and according to the definitions set forth by my government, I am also Caucasian, or WHITE.)

What any of that has to do with the content of my story, I shall never know.

As suggested above, you'll be saving yourself a lot of unnecessary headache by deleting or ignoring the comment.

Like the saying goes, 'Haters gonna hate.'

I find it is similar to when you spend a lot of time and effort planing a meal, cooking it balance all of the condiment's present it nicely on the plate then with out tasting the food they add salt and pepper and in the worst case tomato ketchup. Me i just take note and if and when they return to eat a my place i have a nice long and slow wank and come in there food. You cannot do the same but you have the satisfaction of having created something. made me cum anyway.
